4.0 out of 5 stars Out of box sucked but FW upgrade made it worth it
I bought this product to bridge a 1.5mb DSL and 4mb cable connection. It was easy to configure. But it reset the WAN ports every 3-5 minutes. It was painful. Also, it kept forgetting the the addresses the DHCP server was dishing out.

But I saw the review here on Amazon and got info on a FW upgrade that is not yet released. So I contacted D-LINK support...

I tried this router out for a weeks period of time with dismal results. The router would frequently reboot on it's own. Over a 5 hour period of time the router rebooted 32 times. During a reboot all internet sessions that are active get dropped. So this means all files I had downloading would get interruption, I would get kicked out of instant messengers, and I'd be...

So I contacted D-LINK support. They gave me the run-around and one person hung up on me. Very uncool. And I was being very nice to her. But I kept having to correct her recaps of the problems. Finally someone pointed me at the right group. I asked nicely if I could get the upgrade. Mine was dated 9/26/06. It works like a charm!

I'm very happy with it. I'm having problems with one legacy Windows CE tablet computer but, otherwise, I have seen no instability.

Here is the group's phone number at D-LINK that is responsible for this device (877-354-6555).

Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, January 29, 2006

I was getting tired of our DSL going down, so I got cable as well and tried this load-balancing router. It's great - now, not only do I get 100% up-time, but whenever either internet connection (DSL or cable) goes down, it sends me an email!

I tried this router out for a weeks period of time with dismal results. The router would frequently reboot on it's own. Over a 5 hour period of time the router rebooted 32 times. During a reboot all internet sessions that are active get dropped. So this means all files I had downloading would get interruption, I would get kicked out of instant messengers, and I'd be disconnected from xbox live. I contacted dlink tech support who acknowledge my problem and that they had heard other reports of this problem. However, they were not able to suggest a course of resolution.

1.0 out of 5 stars Reboots itself, April 11, 2006

This product reboots itself every 5-10 minutes, breaking all connections. I RMA'ed the first one, thinking it was defective, but the second we received exhibited the exact same behavior. D-Link support was not helpful at all, suggesting our individual product is defective even after I explained that the first did the same thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw bad reviews and had to add something good, June 5, 2008
This review is from: D-Link DI-LB604?4-Port Load Balancing Router (Personal Computers)
Ok, I bought one of these for a client at least a year ago and it was worth every penny (and then some). Except for one minor hickup in the beginning, it has worked flawlessly. At first, certain secure websites would not load correctly. We had to put in a rule that forces secure sites to use only one of the WAN ports and not load balance the secure sites. Then it worked perfectly. We are using it with a T1 and a DSL line. The DSL line is backup for when the T1 goes down. You wouldn't think that would happen very often but it does go down every once in a while. I don't remember if I applied updated firmware or not in the very beginning. Either way, it has worked great. I HIGHLY recommend.

3.0 out of 5 stars For the price, yes!, January 20, 2008

I would rate this good, for the price you paid for. Good for your home with 2 internet connections. Of course, do not compare this with commercial grade Cisco or Zyxel Dual WAN, you pay thousands versus this which cost a little over 100. It's worth the money you paid for. tech-r-us.com

1.0 out of 5 stars Very unstable router., August 28, 2006

I wish I had read these reviews before picking one of these up. Not only does my router reboot, it hard locks. Sometimes once per day and 3 or more on other days. Have to power cycle it to get it working again.

Tech support said the router was defective and x-shipped me a new one. Well, plugged in the new router today and it comes up with my static connection, but it will not bring up the dynamic circuit on either WAN port, no matter what I do. Hooked up my old linksys routers and everything is back to running at 100%.

Guess that old saying is true. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :P

1.0 out of 5 stars VPN passthrough not working correctly, August 14, 2007
This review is from: D-Link DI-LB604?4-Port Load Balancing Router (Personal Computers)
I got this router to hook up to both a cable and DSL uplink. Unfortunately, in spite of extended tinkering with the router's settings I could not connect from my laptop to the VPN at work. With my old Linksys WRT54G this worked fine out of the box. BTW, this was with only a single uplink hooked up.

I also tried this with the Xincom XC-DPG502, same problem. I am planning to try the Draytek 2910 next.

1.0 out of 5 stars D-Link's customer support is terrible, December 14, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: D-Link DI-LB604?4-Port Load Balancing Router (Personal Computers)
The router keeps dropping the connection. I just spent hours calling three different numbers, talked with about 8 people trying to get the firmware upgrade and they say they don't provide beta firmware anymore. It's not worth my time. I have a d-link router at home and it works great, but the technical support is just a mess.
If you value your time, don't buy this product.
