I bought two of the DHP-309AV kits and set up all 4 of the units with the same encryption key. I have one of them connected to my router, of course, and the other three are for a network printer, a DirecTV DVR receiver, and a desktop computer. These three network devices are at diverse locations in the house.

Setup is easy (but see below) and it's nice that each unit comes with an ethernet cable. The connectivity seems to be reliable and with adequate bandwidth.

I like the status LED's.

I really have only a couple of gripes. One is that I get a little bit of background noise on a recording system that is near the the unit connected to the router. Possibly if I got a longer ethernet cable and moved the unit to the other side of the room it would go away. For now I just unplug it from the wall when recording. This may not be a fault of these particular units, but rather one of the caveats of the technology in general, since (from what I've read) it basically turns your house wiring into a sort of broadcasting antenna.

The other is that this product is somewhat poorly documented. Only by reading lots of product reviews beforehand did I have a trouble-free setup. Here is what you need to know:
1) Initially set up the encryption key with the units on the same circuit. If you use two plugs in the same room you should be on the same circuit. Then you can move them anywhere in the house.
2) The button for encryption key setup should be pressed for no more than 2 seconds, not at least 2 seconds as the quick start guide implies.

Other tips:
1) Heed the warnings in the documentation and always plug the units directly into the wall.

I have used various powerline adapters from different manufacturers. The DHP-309AV works but drops important features from previous models. The DHP-309AV kit comprises of two DHP-308AV (note the 8 instead of 9) adapters, D-Link uses the DHP-309AV model to refer to two bundled adapters. It should be OK to purchase a separate DHP-308AV adapter and link it to a pair of 309s if you need to connect additional devices. My devices had firmware 1.00 (marked on device label).
THE GOOD:
+ The adapters do what they claim: create a Ethernet link using house AC wiring. The devices that you connect do not need any special configuration and never realize that they are not connected by Ethernet cable.
+ The size is much smaller than previous 200Mbps adapters that I have purchased. This means that they are less noticeable, apart from taking up less space.
+ The single button (used for resetting/setting security) is placed on the bottom of the device where it is much less likely to be accidentally pressed when unplugging or plugging in. Some other powerline adapters have this button on the side of the device which almost guarantees that you will inadvertently press it during installation or removal.
+ The Powerline (middle) LED changes color depending on signal quality and is a nice feature to determine which outlets may work better than others (just plug it in and watch the color). Believe it or not I have seen other powerline adapters which do not use different colors for the Powerline LED and this makes it difficult to evaluate signal quality.

THE BAD:
- The most important feature that is missing is the ability to configure the powerline security key using a computer.

I recently purchased a blu-ray dvd player with wireless capability in order to stream Amazon prime and Netflix. My router is setup in my basement, and the dvd player is in a living room upstairs. Although I get good download speeds on my laptop in the living room, I was getting only 2-3 Mbps on the dvd player. I had the D-link adapter set up and running within 2 minutes of opening the box, and my download speeds jumped up to 15 Mbps -- no more buffering or lengthy delays stuck on the "loading" screen.

I first tried the NETGEAR Powerline 200Mbps Mini Adapter - Starter Kit (XAVB1301). One of the adapters died within 5 days. They were returned. Then I tried the TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT AV500 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit. The adapters didn't die but they would randomly disconnect couple of times a day. Returned. Finally tried these AV 500. Perfect, flawless, no lost connection, no low bandwidth, green light all the way.

Update: Lowering the score from 5 to 3 stars. After some tests it turns out I was losing some bandwidth. Whereas a computer connected directly to the router would get 65 Mbps download speeds, a computer connected at the other end of the powerline adapters set would get 30 or less. I then got a set of ZyXEL 600 Mbps Mini Powerline AV2 Gigabit Adapter, Starter Kit - 2 Units (PLA5205KIT), and got 60 Mbps download speed through them (That's not their bandwidth limit, but meaning I got almost the same bandwidth for Internet connectivity than connecting the computer directly to the router). Will write product review on the ZyXEL adapters in a few days, once I've observed their behavior for a while.
