OK for surfing the internet but if you want to stream or download anything forget it,

If all you want to do is surf the internet or check e-mail it's probably fine. If you ever need to download something wrap the adapter in ice first because after 50 Mb or so it will overheat and kill your connection.

worked great for the first couple of months, and then it just died. Tried it on other computers with no luck. Also, range is very poor, so if you need the wireless access at a distance of more than 10-15 feet from the router, get something else.

Stay far, far away,

It disconnects constantly, 4-5 times per day, and gets very hot. Looking around online, I'm not the only one with these problems. I called support, and they claimed it was my router. I explained that that was rather interesting, since at least 4 other devices in the house stay connected with no trouble at all. They escalated to 2nd tier support, which advised me to return it to the store and get a different kind (!) when they were told of the reviews I read. On hearing it was past the return policy (it was purchased near Christmas, I was too busy to worry about wifi issues then), they want me to ship it back to them, at my expense. Avoid it like the plague. It simply doesn't work. Some reviewers say it works "well enough" for simple web browsing. Sometimes, perhaps it does. But why buy a product that only works "well enough" for casual use when you can get one that works -right- for the same or less money?

Decent USB wireless but if you're running a newer OS its worthless,

First things first - I didn't buy this on Amazon. I bought this a couple of years ago from Bestbuy for my Compaq desktop at the time. Before I got a laptop and before I custom built my current gaming PC, I had hauled my Compaq around and needed a wireless USB. It was to say at least a satisfying product at the time. The installation disc however was garbage. It just had too much junk I didn't need and the installation files were corrupt. Bad disc I guess. Needless to say I went on the main site and downloaded the drivers there which ended up being a faster and smoother process.
The device worked. I never had it drop connection or get a weak signal. Though the Range Booster didn't seem existent. I never really saw an increase in performance, but hey I was just happy I was connected, stayed connected and didn't have any sluggish performance while online. This bit of information is the most important and what in the end lead me to a 3 star rating instead of 4. The highest OS compatibility this can go is unfortunately Vista 64. When I upgraded my PC entirely I had finally switched over to Windows 7 and was heartbroken to find out they were not compatible at all. Even when trying out the Vista drivers as it was suggested it just still didn't go through. The device wouldn't connect and it even gave me plenty of Blue Screen issues. I was even more heartbroken to find out D-Link would not provide a future update for Windows 7.

Definitely good enough for internet,

I've had this product for about a month and overall, I find it very good. I use it to connect to my D-Link wireless router that is 2 floors above my computer in my split-level home. The signal fluctuates between low and very good but is always more than enough for internet connections. Even on a "fair" connection, I still was getting 600K download speed from Microsoft's website. Bottom line, if you're using it for large file transfers at a long distance or though a few walls, it's not going to be that great. However, if you just want it to share an internet connection, it's great.

Don't Buy DLINK WUA-2340! It's horrible!,
This review is from: D-Link WUA-2340 RangeBooster G USB Adapter (Personal Computers)
I bought this wireless adapter because we bought two stories condo, so we need some kind of wireless internet access. It looks very sharp and cool, but the quality is horrible, it is LOADED with bugs!
First of all, when I tried to run it, it will give me the blue screen of death every 5 to 10 minutes. a5agu.sys system crashed! I tried to call D-Link customer support and after a long wait and transfer, The tech support was unable to fix the problem and D-Link customer service refused to replace the broken adapter!!! They are the worst technical support in the world, they are rude and they don't have a clue of what they are doing. I trashed the DLINK WUA-2340 in the trash and went ahead and bought a Belkin wireless adapter and the Belkin works great on Windows XP! AVOID D-LINK and buy BELKIN!

I already have very slow internet (dload speed capped at about 120kb/s) so I did not need a very expensive adapter. The range on it is not very good forcing me to use the USB extender that comes with it so I can put it on top of a shelf.

When I first got this thumb stick it worked just as desired until it over heated and then it died. So be careful to stay away from this item.

Came fast, brand new in package - wasn't excepting that - thought it was going to be a partial product, but came with the dock station/ cord. Plugged it in and it worked.

A capable product,

The other reviews seem to be either by those whose house was nearly burned down by this thing or those with D-Link stock options. I got mine refurbed on ebay for about eight bucks, perhaps including shipping, I don't recall. There were some burps and bumps getting the driver to load (no disc came with this unit) but ultimately I did get it to work. Bottom line? If it has increased signal strenght that is hardly reflected by the meter. I HAD two bars and now I HAVE two bars. However there has been a noticeable improvement in video/audio loading and the general stability of service. So, contrary to some of the negative comments, this does seem to be well worth it at sub-$10. It has provided enough improvement that I don't have to do anything more extreme, like setting up my own network, money well spent indeed.
