Book Description

October 1990 1555601324 978-1555601324 Game
DMZ is a game of street combat set in the near future. Quick combat-resolution and movement systems make battles move along, whether the fight is on motorcycles or on foot, whether it is fought with magic, automatic weapons, or bare fists. DMZ is a great introduction to the Shadowrun universe, and will stand alone as a board game, or can be used to resolve large-scale gang and street combats in the Shadowrun roleplaying game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't really fit with the rest of the universe..., June 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: D.M.Z.: Downtown Militarized Zone (Shadowrun) (Hardcover)
I didn't really like this set because it doesn't fit in very well with the rest of the Shadowrun game universe, particularly if you are running SR2. (if you aren't, you are the last of a dying breed.) In addition, the emphasis is on really fast combat, nothing else. Hey, if I've got my characters in a nasty firefight, I want to play the whole thing out, not go through some fast resolution thing. As for the other people involved in combat that are not directly affecting the PCs? As a GM, you should be able to arbitrarily make decisions, and not have to use a completely different set of rules to determine the outcome of every single shot fired. The one redeeming value that this has is the cool overhead maps and the character cutouts- you can use them to represent the bad guys in a fight when you don't have enough regular minatures to go around. The overheads add a nice graphic touch to the regular layouts. Summation- nice if you can get it, but avoid paying list price for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept not enough support, September 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: D.M.Z.: Downtown Militarized Zone (Shadowrun) (Hardcover)
After opening the box, I put it on a shelf. Too much cardboard to sift through, and the rules were not what I expected. I thought the game would add more excitement to my game, but it was extremely disappointing. Add to that the lack of support by FASA for it and it became worthless.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is a very interesting set, May 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: D.M.Z.: Downtown Militarized Zone (Shadowrun) (Hardcover)
It went over the basics and whas easy for me to understand (note: I am however a player os simular games) and had a decent set of characters. However it left many loose ends encouraging readers to buy other components in the series.

Good marketing strategy!
