4.0 out of 5 stars Good Blade
I rip a lot of 2 1/4" hardwood and I have ripped thousands of feet of it before I needed the blade to be sharpened. Because it is a thin kerf ATB blade it will try to follow the grain on thick hardwood if you push the wood through too fast, but overall it is a good blade. For the money though the Freud LU87R010 is a better blade. You can sharpen the LU87R010 more times,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Blade Marks
I have been very pleased with my freud industtrial full kerf combination blade (50 teeth), my Freud Diablo thin kerf crosscut blade (80 teeth), and my Freud 8" dado set. Even their router bits are good. However this blade didn't perform as expected. It does cut 1.5 inch hardwood on my 1.5hp contractors saw easily, however the cut quality is not great. I build...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Blade, July 17, 2004

For the money though the Freud LU87R010 is a better blade. You can sharpen the LU87R010 more times, because of the large size of carbide teeth it has. The LU87R010 is just a more professional blade.

This blade is great for ripping with the grain. The thin kerf and coating allow it to cut with low resistance on underpowered saws. It will burn on wide crosscuts and cause tearout. Take Freud's description as gospel...ripping blade. If you need a general purpose blade, this is not it.

I bought this for resawing softwood stock down for spindle work. Not too much strain on the table saw and the pieces squared up nicely. Short of a couple hundred for a small bandsaw, I'd recommend it for such general resawing-ripping work. No flex in the blade that I can see, little burn or pitch build up--so far. For under $30, exactly what I needed. For hardwoods, I'd say the saw motor should be packing a lot of horses though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blade Marks, October 19, 2011
This review is from: Freud D1024X Diablo 10-Inch 24-Tooth ATB Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
I build furniture, and expect clean cuts that require only minimal sanding with 120 and 150 grit. Even after making a second skim cut with this blade, I could not get a cut without blade marks. It didn't burn at all, but comparing the glassy smooth finish of my combination blade to this ripping blade I wasn't impressed. I got this blade to make ripping thick hardwoods easier - the one task my combination blade struggles with. But now I have to rough cut the lumber and switch to my combination blade for a skim cut to remove blade marks. These results were obtained on a properly tuned tablesaw with featherboard and zero-clearance insert with thin kerf splitter.

This blade would be great for zipping through fencing of decking boards, but it wasn't up to the task of building furniture.

Freud/Diablo 10 inch 24-tooth ripping saw blades can't be beat for quality and durability. We have used them for several years. We sometime buy blades that are more expensive thinking we can get something better and don't. We sometimes buy blades that are on sale and cheaper but do not get the life as we do with the Diablo. We always come back to the Diablo. It may not be the best but for the money it works best for us. For me if it doesn't saw Freud i don't want to waste my time. We get to the job site and need to get work done, not spend time changing blades.

1.0 out of 5 stars This can't be a Freud, December 24, 2005
This review is from: Freud D1024X Diablo 10-Inch 24-Tooth ATB Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'll start by saying that I didn't buy this blade willingly. I was working on an oak project (4/4) and wound up chipping the teeth on my Freud LU87R010 (also a 10" x 24T ATB thin kerf) when I hit a staple. I needed a replacement right away and this blade was the closest thing I could find locally. I figured it was a Freud, in roughly the same price range, so it had to be 1/2 way decent - at least to get me through until I could order another LU87. Boy, was I wrong!

I brought the blade home and swapped it out, cleaning the arbor face and ensuring that the blade surface was clean. Instead of picking up where I left off, I decided to rip a test piece. When I looked at the cut, I figured there had to be something on the arbor or blade that I missed - the blade was wobbling terribly and left horrible saw marks down the entire face. The saw marks were so bad that I had to remove 1/16"+ on my jointer before I could get rid of them. I removed it, inspected it (didn't see anything obvious), cleaned it again, remounted it and ran another test piece. Same thing. I remounted the chipped LU87 and it produced a very clean edge. Although it takes more effort to push through and the crosscut produces more breakout due to the chipped teeth, it's still better than the Diable D1024x.

Most of my tools, from my 12" miter saw to table saw to router, are outfitted with Freud blades because I've found they produce a superior product with superior results. Anyone that asks, I will confidently tell them to spend the extra money on a Freud product because you get what you pay for. This blade is definately the exception and it is the first time that I have been disappointed in the quality of a Freud product. I really think Freud is doing themselves a diservice by putting their name on this, as I don't think it's adequate for ripping 2x4's - especially when you can spend another $5 and buy the LU87 - a much better product.
