Excellent entry level laptop computer for the price!

I'm a college student, and I wanted a less-expensive laptop to take on campus to use for classes, than my main one at home. Last year I used a Chromebook, and although it did the job, it was limited in what all could be done on it. That being said, this year, I wanted a cheap laptop that I wouldn't miss terribly if it were stolen, as it could be easily replaced.

I've been through my fair share of Windows PCs, and at this price point, this is by far one of the best deals around. I've heard/seen people who have purchased it even cheaper "offline" at Best Buy and other retailers, so definitely take a look in-store if that's an option for you. Elsewise, at this price, it's truly a bargain.

Windows 8 is... annoying, however, Classic Shell can be installed (Google it) to return your interface to one that's familiar. Once I did that, I was perfectly fine navigating.

Quick for web browsing, and I'm even able to play a few games that don't require graphics intensive demands (MineCraft, Ragnarok Online, etc) on lower settings.

The addition of the optical drive makes this great for my needs (music student, and we go through a LOT of CDs in our listenings), the storage space is great, and I can even use Netflix/watch Youtube videos without issue.

Nice, bright, crisp display- I actually prefer it to my "main" laptop I use at home for business purposes.

If you're expecting a back-lit keyboard, or instantaneous application openings, then look a few more hundreds of dollars. For an entry-level, student/college laptop, this is the one to buy.

I am happy that I was able to get this computer for the price it's listed. I've had it for 2 days now and It runs well. I have iTunes (which is a pretty big program) and league of legends on it and it still runs great.

I got this computer as a media PC, I have it connected to my TV. I use the Logitech k400 keyboard since it has a mouse integrated

You will also have to get a webcam if you want to skype, it has the peeping hole, but no camera

I had to get a usb 3.0 hub since this laptop only have 1 usb 2.0 and 1 usb 3.0 . It works great out of the box, very responsive with XBMC (Now named KODI). It lags a little loading heavy web pages or medium sized spreadsheets, but if you need more power, don't get a Celeron, spend some more money on a core i3 or an i5.

The overall speed is slightly slower that my other laptop, the Core i3 380u (first gen Core i3)

I normally like to tweak my laptops with SSD, like the 840 EVO that's getting cheaper every day or expand the RAM. But I had to disassemble completely to access them, there's no service entry to do a quick change of parts, but still possible.

People here complain that this keyboard should have a back-light, webcam or Bluetooth, but at this price point, you get:
* Optical Drive
* HDMI
* VGA
* RJ45 + WiFi
* 500GB
* 4GB RAM

This is an excellent laptop for media purposes, light use or child pc. If you want it for any more, get a basic Core i3 laptop not the same price range, but a more complete one.

I picked this up to replace an HP laptop with a broken screen. The laptop shipped quickly and the product was free of damage when it got here.
Pros:
Fairly lightweight and portable enough for my tastes
Comfortable keyboard.
Reasonable price point.
Cons:
Mousepad is a pain and with no discrete border between buttons and pad clicking on something can be an adventure.
One of my USB 3.0 ports has stopped working entirely about 6 months into owning the machine.
If you don't take fanatical care to wipe down your keyboard or put some kind of thin padding between keyboard and screen before you close the laptop you will have issues keeping your screen clean.

Super little computer to send a kid off to college with. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles but it is powerful and will do anything that a student needs to accomplish. It should be good to carry into that first job after graduation too.

I just purchased this Notebook and its working great. However, you've got to install your own programs such a Microsoft Office etc. The OS, Windows 8.1 is just fantastic. Asus offers free web storage for your PC and you've also got your own built in One Drive storage as well on this Notebook. Hence, you can sync your Android, Tablet and Notebook all in one to access your files, photos etc.
Great laptop at a great price.

It's not bad. For the most part it has everything that I was looking for: webcam, optical drive(I know who uses CDs anymore right? WRONG :) I do!), loud sound, a lot of memory, fast RAM, and fast processor.

The only thing I wish the seller had noted in the description is that it doesn't come with Microsoft Office pre-installed. Even a trial copy would've been helpful but instead all that is available on this notebook is WordPad. I'm not sure if that's how most notebooks come these days; however, the lack of Microsoft Office or any useful document editing software made me give this product a 3 star rating instead of a 4. And I checked cnet for possible downloadable solutions and currently there are none for Windows 8.1 only Windows XP.
