Original take on Daemons vs Humans,

The author goes for a cool combination of the inexplicable and the unfathomable. These are the first two books of a trilogy, whose final book has only just been released. Written in the early 90's, these books preceed the current run of Urban Fantasy by about two decades. Bacon-Smith uses the ordinary, a detective agency, to conceal the extraordinary. This agency is run by daemons, plus one trying-to-keep-up human. Or rather, half-human, half-daemon. The first part of his life was full of the crazy, but when his daemon father (long story there) rescues him and explains what he is, it's really only the start of a long journey to fully realize what it all means. This isn't a Young Adult book. Don't even go there. But it IS the story of a young man trying to find his place when there is literally no one else like him in existence. The fun part is that the daemons aren't good guys. In fact, just what they are takes a great deal of the book to unravel.
