Great Backpack,

I needed a new backpack, one with a laptop compartment. Other reviews said this backpack was too big, I think it's just right. I fit a 15 inch laptop, two textbooks, and a notebook and it's pretty much full. Here's some of the features and what I think about them:
Size- Great, holds as much as you would want to put on your back. Storage- Plenty of extra pockets, pen holders; the sunglasses/goggles holders are weird if you're using this for school. Comfort- The shoulder straps are very comfortable and the chest strap distributes weight well; I don't use the waist strap, but it doesn't get in the way (although there is nowhere to store it). Style- I love the "Bomber" color scheme; I was torn between Bomber and Darkwater, but Bomber was on sale. Durability- Haven't had it long enough to begin to wear, but you can tell that it is extremely well made and should last several years. *Note- 15 to 16 inch laptops are about the biggest you'll fit in the sleeve. Also, a lot of backpacks have MP3 player slots and places for the earbuds to come out; this backpack is devoid of any such frivolity, which I find as a plus.

The bag runs "slightly" big to my liking, but I cannot deny the fact that its generous capacity is incredibly useful. I wear this commuting to school, for hiking, and just as a laptop carrier.
Definitely recommending this.

What a great buy and back pack! I have a Dakine back pack and wanted to purchase one for my friend for Christmas. There were many options and styles to choose from. LOTS of pockets and is very useful for school or for outdoor adventures. I even received my purchase sooner than I had expected. I enjoyed my purchasing experience and my friend loves his new back pack =) I highly recommend this product!

Excellent Backpack for Snowboarding or General Use,

I bought this pack and purchased the Dakine photo block separately to go with it. I wanted the Dakine Mission Photo pack but I also wanted the laptop sleeve that this pack has and the Mission Photo pack doesn't so that I could have some versatility.
This pack doesn't have the large zipper on the shoulder strap side of the pack to access the contents of the main compartment like the Mission Photo Pack, so inserting the photo block was tight and didn't allow a completely easy access to all the padded photo compartments, but for what I needed it was fine. I took this backpack up to Mt. Snow Vermont for three days of snowboarding, loading up my camera gear consisting of a Canon Rebel Digital SLR and extra lenses, water bottles, and other items. I found the pack to be very rugged and comfortable to the point that I almost forgot I was wearing it during my runs. The photo block protected the camera gear from damage even after several wipe outs. The Mission Pack is tough with comfortable shoulder straps, chest strap and a waist strap. I found that the waist strap helps keep the pack in place when you catch an edge and find yourself upended with gravity and momentum deciding your fate. Most of the time I rode with just the shoulder straps and chest strap in place. The board straps allow you to carry your board on your back. I found this helpful since I was getting over a shoulder injury that tended to ache when carrying anything for very long. I had an extra pair of goggles in the goggle compartment the whole weekend that I completely forgot about, and even after several rough landings they were in perfect shape. The third day I remembered the water bottle pocket. This is a clever little feature that looks like a pocket until you open it up and it becomes a water bottle carrier complete with a drawstring. It held a 16oz. bottle of water without a problem (didn't try it with anything larger but it seemed like a 20oz bottle would fit), and I never lost a bottle even after a few spills. Overall I found this to be an excellent choice for snowboarding and would work for a lot of other uses including day-to-day work. I would highly recommend it.

Dakine Mission Pack - good all-around choice,
By Two main zippered-access compartments separate your gear nicely, and the laptop sleeve is flexible enough to not limit use on the mountain or bike. Board carry straps may get in the way at times, and might put strain on the outer zippered pocket when in use.

Ya, I have to say I used to think Dakine was overrated. That was over 8 years ago. Then I got my first Dakine mission bag in high school and it lasted all the way through to college and then got stolen jan 3rd in SF's tenderloins. No I have replaced the old mission bag I had that was mostly brown and green with a sweet, dark colored one with some lime green. This thing is amazing MUCH better than the older version I had! I mean think has a compartment for EVRYTHING! If your like me and like things separated this IS THE PACK FOR YOU. This pack interior is even water proof material for the most part. not 100% water proofed but resistant to rain no problem! I love this pack and I work in sport chalet so I say Ogio, Jansport, and Element don't have shnite on this pack. Though i'll admit Oakley, Electric have some worthy opposition for this master piece.

I bought this bag for a few reasons- my current school/laptop backpack was way too big and a hassle to carry around, and I was about to embark on a backcountry snowboard trip to Jackson Hole, WY.
This bag met both my requirements- snowboard straps, and a laptop compartment. Its rugged- even after four days of backcountry hiking, its it excellent shape. No cuts or scrapes from board edges, and even after a few brushes with rocks, theres no wear or tear. Its nice and water resistant- I definitely tomahawked in pow a few times, and all my extra layers stayed dry. Its roomy enough to carry all my backcountry gear, or all my school books, but not so huge that it feels like a midget on your back. The straps and buckles all work very well. And now that its not winter, this pack is perfect for biking to and from school or work. I only have two gripes: first, the board straps are a little short. I had to work pretty hard to clip my board in, and they're also spaced just a hair too close for my binding to fit between them. Second, the chest strap (that connects the two shoulder straps) snapped after my Jackson trip. But that was nothing a nice sewing job didn't take care of. I think the only thing that could make it better would be a place to put A/T poles. (straps on the side?)

Great Mulit-purpose Bag,

SO, I'm going back to school, and my 9 year old North Face bag just won't cut it anymore. Great bag, great memories, just need more. I was in search of a new NF bag, but the price was getting me down. Then I remembered Dakine, which I own a snowboard bag and goggle case, both very nice. I got this Mission bag in the Black/Alpine plaid for under $37, which they usually sell for $65. WHAT A DEAL. I can use this bag for school, the laptop sleeve holds my 13" MBP perfectly, and I can bring this out west for some snowboarding excursions. The straps are comfy, the construction seems to be high quality, and the style is much better then any north face bag. All in all a KILLER deal.
