Book Description

"A great tale of adventure and romance, beautifully imagined and deeply engaging from beginning to end!"
~Diana Gabaldon, bestselling author of Outlander, An Echo In The Bone, and the Lord John Grey series

A WORLD OF MAGIC, LOVE, AND BETRAYAL

Celia Montrose has been trained to deal with any emergency--except being thrust into another world. Nothing has prepared her for meeting the Viking descendants of the lost Vinland colony, or coping with kidnapping, murder, and magic.

Lord Dahleven is on the verge of war when he rescues a strange and beautiful woman in the drylands. Though he fears Celia may be Fey-marked, Dahleven can't resist the powerful attraction he feels for her. But is Celia in league with the enemy, or will she provide the key to saving his people?

Alone and off-balance, Celia finds herself falling for Lord Dahleven. But dangerous forces are at work, and one of them is offering Celia a way home--for a price.

Book One of the Vinlanders' Saga.  New Cover!

About the Author

As a reader, my first love was science-fiction and fantasy, but then I discovered the romance genre. Now I enjoy blending the two, writing romantic fiction with an otherworldly twist. With a background in property management, occupational therapy, and paranormal investigation, I bring a diverse experience to my stories. In fact, it was my time as an investigator with the Western Society for Paranormal Research that inspired characters in two of my books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read! April 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dangerous Talents was a surprisingly good read. to be honest, I wasn't expecting much - but the story flows easily, the characters develop at a good pace. I was kept intrigued as to who the perpetrator was throughout (and was completely wrong, even though a few characters that I *thought* were involved, were).

Time travel, mystery and, yes, love were woven together in such a way by Frankie Robertson, that I can't even see the seams! =)
I can't wait to read the sequel!

First, I just want to note -- I gave this book 3 stars, which means I found it enjoyable... but most of the review contains the sticking points and things that could be improved (in my opinion). I know this book has a lot of good reviews and I urge you to look at those too. This is more just a place for me to express things that stood out, and unfortunately that always seems to be the editor in me finding room for improvement... even in books that I enjoy.

Things I enjoyed:

1) The fantasy world is based on Viking mythology, which isn't something you commonly see.

2) The magic system does not overwhelm the story.

3) The story is fast paced. I was never bored or felt like I was sifting through chapters of description or non-action.

Things that could be improved:

1) Romance. Too much, too soon. Reading more about her, I saw that the author also is a romance writer... something I did not know coming into this. I shy away from romance because, frankly, I find that pretty boring as far as character development and plot goes. I'm sure it's pretty standard in the romance arena, but if a character gets transported to a completely different world and there is magic involved, I don't want to have her spending her time musing internally about her feelings about some guy she just met a day ago. THAT'S what you're thinking about, Celia, really? To be honest, it makes me not take her as seriously as a character. Celia is supposed to be this tough, no-nonsense good-in-emergencies kind of girl, and she's withering and musing and feels twisted inside over the way this man she just met a day ago glances at her? :/ That's a little too junior-high girlie for me, but that's probably why I don't like romances in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good July 9, 2012
Format:Paperback
I got completely lost the the world Frankie Robertson has created. when I was forced to put the book down, sleep or kids needing food, I couldn't let the story go and kept replaying scenes in my mind. I have major Book Hangover now that I am done as I don't want to leave this amazing world full of magic, Vikings, sexy men, lusty women, and Elves! I can't wait for The next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, I love it! May 5, 2012

Always on the prowl for good free reads, I came across this one..
And luckily for me, this is a really good one!

Lots of action, some love and passion, and a good story in an original world! I like how the author have made magic into talents, and mix some Norwegian into the story (Yes, I'm a viking)!
I really hope Cele and Dahleven will appear in more stories, and that she will never lose her spunk!

Highly recommended for fantasy-loving people who don't mind a little romance thrown in here and there!

Can I first say I loved the book and all the characters except for Celia. She had to be the dumbest person I've ever encountered in a book. The people who saved me and took care of me, yes they are evil probably, I will keep an eye on them. The one who kidnaps me is obviously the one I should trust blindly with no questions asked....mostly because he says what I want to hear and obviously that is all that is important. Logic is not one of her strengths. She is supposed to be able to handle emergencies, but if I was in danger and it was up to her to save me I'm pretty sure I'd be doomed because she'd be sending robbers to save me instead of the police. I don't mind her making dumb assumptions, but when things show up to make the truth obvious she conveniently ignores them. I am working really hard to finish this book. The only reason I continued was because I hoped that something would happen to redeem her, because at the moment I don't want her with the main guy because if he is leader, I would have to agree with his mother and say she is not fit to help anyone rule because she listens to whoever says what she likes and ignores the truth even when it's quite obvious. If you like a rational heroine then you will be frustrated reading all her dumb decisions, but if you can read just accepting she may not be too bright, then you may be alright. Again the other characters are great, and the history/mythology is too. I am now pausing and I'm not sure when I will continue reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed the fantasy world! July 16, 2012

I finished this book last night & my dreams were of the world Cele landed in... I really appreciate paranormal done well. This one had a lovely romance and the plot surprised me several times. Love, suspense, deceit, action, mystery... the characters are developed, but it's worth a mention that I didn't know how to pronounce a few of the names. I plan to read it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read May 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked the way the characters were portrayed. The setting is completely unique and that adds character to the book. It is a parallel universe, so things are different and yet the same from other stories rhar I have read. It adds a nice touch because the story seems familiar but is really different from the typical genre.

I really liked the book and I can't wait to read the sequel Forbidden Talents!
