Perfect Keyboard, August 6, 2008
This review is from: DAS Keyboard for PC - Macintosh - Linux (Personal Computers)
This is THE keyboard I've been looking for years. I grew up on the IBM Model M keyboards and those were some of the best keyboards ever made in this world. Unfortunately, most of the mechanical key keyboards have been discontinued, probably due to the price or many other reasons beyond my understanding. It was such a relief to finally find a mechanical key keyboard built to last, just like old times. Years of typing on the modern membrane keyboards have ruined my typing speed, but having the Das Keyboard back on my desk feels great. The build quality of this keyboard is solid, and so are the keys. The keys are perfect and give an awesome audible and tactile response when pressed. Exactly how a perfect keyboard is supposed to be. I took a brief look at the Saitek Eclipse II keyboard after reading rave reviews for that, but was disappointed to find that its response was not much different than the current dell membrane keyboard I had. Sure, the Das Keyboard does not have any of the extra multimedia keys, but I rarely used those keys anyway. The only feature I miss in the Das Keyboard as compared to other multimedia keyboards is the volume control, which I can happily live without given the awesome keys this keyboard has. My search is over. THE KEYBOARD.

It Feels Fabulous, September 11, 2008
This review is from: DAS Keyboard for PC - Macintosh - Linux (Personal Computers)
I started typing on a Smith Corona standard portable (non-electric) and, as far as I'm concerned, the best "keyboard" in history was that of the IBM Selectric II. I love the feel of typing - it's a tactile experience, and the sound of the keys somehow made me feel as if I were really doing something. Nostalgia? Perhaps -- but I enjoyed working that way far more than with the soft touch silent keyboards I've been using for the last decade. Finally -- Das Keyboard -- read about it in Mac Magazine, bought two the next day. Will need another, since my wife has appropriated one. This is a heavy, substantial keyboard -- the keys have travel, they click in a satisfying way, and you have to put a little "oomph" into your keystrokes. This is the Bentley of keyboards! I can feel my thoughts expanding with my range of motion! If you remember what typing was like before the current generation of keyboards, and like the way it used to be, this is the keyboard for you.

Nice clicky keyboard but with some real negatives, August 4, 2008
This review is from: DAS Keyboard for PC - Macintosh - Linux (Personal Computers)
This is a nice clicky keyboard but here a few negatives to be aware of: -It is a total dust magnet because it has a high gloss finish. This means that it will look dusty most of the time and show fingerprints unless you wipe it with the included microfiber cloth. -The lettering on the keys started to wear off after only a couple of months. A keyboard of this price should have very sturdy lettering on the keys, not crapped painted on ones that can be rubbed off. - The keys started to look shiny from wear/usage after only a couple of months. I'm a normal typist, am not hard on keyboards, but I use them daily. -This keyboard required two USB ports to be used on my computer in order to work correctly. I like my Unicomp Customizer 104 keyboard (based on the classic IBM Model M with buckling springs) much better as it feels much more sturdy and even nicer to type on all day, and it was way cheaper than the DAS. You can also still find some of the old IBM Model M keyboards that the Unicomp is based on and use a PS2 to USB adapter. In fact, many 'in the know' believe the IBM Model M (or equivalent Unicomp models) to be the best keyboard ever made.
