The Dash diet is excellent and the book provides a variety of menu ideas that can have you eating interesting and delicious meals at every sitting. On the down side, you will have to hire a full time chef to prepare the meals and buy an extra refrigerator / freezer to hold all the ingredients you'll need. No way a moderately busy person or anyone with even a part time job could possibly find the time to shop for and prepare the 28 days of menus provided by the author. One day alone would be taxing.

The real problem with the book though is that it is not well organized and for the first week you will waste a lot of time and effort digging for information that is somewhere in the book, but scattered here and there and in places you wouldn't expect. For example, serving sizes, which are critical to the diet should be located early in the book. Instead, you find this hidden in a section dealing with weight control on page 81, long after the 28 days of menus and long after your eyes have glazed over. Some chapters are there for fluff only, like the chapter titled "Lifestyle Changes to Help Lower Blood Preassure." All of the information contained in this chapter can be stated in one declaratory sentence: Stop smoking and cut back on the alcohol. It's inclusion as a full chapter may enhance the look of the Table of Contents, but it does nothing to enhance your knowledge or explain the diet.

There are other problems which make the book annoying to use and the diet more difficult than it really is.

Note: In looking for help I found a number of excellent free web sites that provide tons of information on the Dash diet, including a 55 page PDF put out by the National Institute of Health.

The book was short and contained a lot of repetition of the same points. In fact most of the information is very common knowledge if you've ever dieted before. The DASH diet itself is extremely simple, and so the book is stuffed with general diet tips that most people know already anyway.

This book is a big disappointment. One can download the same information and more for free from the DASH.com website or the nhlbi.nih.gov website. (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute) This book does not offer much more than what you can already get online. Save your money, there is plenty of free information online regarding this diet.

Far too simplistic. Did not explain or persuade me to the author's way of thinking. She simply detailed a way of eating and gave no explanation to why. From my understanding of nutrition it seemed like she devised the plan by piecing together all of the different cultural taboos that surround food.

I tried this diet for 2 months and it failed to lower my blood pressure enough to get me off meds. I was only able to normalize it consistently with a plant based diet. Fast forward a year later. I tried again and my blood pressure slowly crept back up again. It had to be the meat and dairy, so I now scale it back to no dairy and occasional fish and my blood pressure is thanking me once again. I guess my metabolism is not receptive to these dietary food combinations.

The information in this book can all be found online for free. I was hoping for more recipes and there are very few included. If you are looking for those. the Mayo Clinic web site has a good number.

As with the other book, you can get this info. by downloading from the NIH website. I returned this along with 3 other dash diet books.

I was looking forward to some real informative details concerning the methods to follow the DASH diet plan. Upon reading this book, it was very basic information and offered little new information or details for a eating plan. I expected more from the primary book defining this diet format.

Not much information beyond the NIH web site. Paper quality was extremely poor. Would not recommend to anyone. Will sit on shelf until spring garage sale time.
