Product Description

D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

Your strings matter. D'Addario's Phosphor Bronze acoustic guitar strings are engineered to serve as the critical link between you and your guitar. Our most popular acoustic guitar strings, EJ's are precision wound with corrosion resistant Phosphor Bronze onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The result is long lasting, bright sounding tone with excellent intonation.

Anatomy of a D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar String

Three components of a D'Addario guitar string work together to create your desired tone: Hex-core, outer wrap wire, and ball-end. It all starts with the core. D'Addario pioneered the use of the Hex Core, and as the name suggests, it is a six-sided high carbon steel core-wire. Each side "bites" into the wire used for the outer winding, creating a tight and consistent bond that keeps the string in tune from end to end. The final component is a D'Addario exclusive: color-coded ball-ends that secure the string in place at the guitar's bridge, allowing for easy string identification and a major reduction in wasteful packaging.

Phosphor Bronze

92% copper and 8% tin with phosphorous, introduced to string making by D'Addario in 1974 as the first "extended life" strings. Phosphor Bronze is synonymous with warm, bright, and well balanced acoustic tone.

Round Wound

The most popular and universal construction, Round Wound strings deliver the traditional textured feel most players are familiar and comfortable with.

The Player's Choice

Ideal for the widest variety of guitars and musical styles, D'Addario acoustic strings are the choice of countless professionals around the world including Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Ryan Adams, and many more!

The D'Addario Difference

It all starts with our exclusively engineered and built string winding machines. There is literally nothing like a D'Addario string machine. The combination of the most advanced computer-controlled winding technology and stringent incoming wire inspection delivers unmatched consistency, string after string, set after set. Our passion for and commitment to environmentally responsible packaging and raw materials fuels our continued innovation. Last but not least, every D'Addario string is made in the USA, ensuring the highest quality and performance.

While it is entirely possible to string a resonator guitar with regular acoustic guitar strings, there really is something to be said for using a set of strings specifically designed for a resonator guitar. This particularly is true if you are going to play lap style slide guitar, because of what they will allow as far as pressure of the bar against the strings, and because of the tonal depth. When I ordered the D'Addario EJ42 set I was surprised--pleasantly--at the price. It turns out that these are very good strings: they hold their tuning quite well and the set has a nice balance from string to string in tension and tone. They can be used on a round-neck resonator for a combination of fretting and slide playing, but because some players might find them a bit heavy for fretting, they probably are most ideal for square-neck, lap-style playing. Because the music stores in my area don't routinely carry resonator strings, and because the Amazon third-party vendor from whom I bought the strings offers free shipping, these D'Addarios will be my first choice the next time I need to change strings on my resonator guitar!

I bought these strings so that I can flat-tune my guitar and still have the same string action. Flat-tuning can render some unfortunate buzzing. This allow the string to have a lower frequency with the same tention.

I put the D'Addario EJ42 strings on my Myrtle, deep-bodied, square-neck reso a few weeks ago. I'm a serious guitarist, but only a hobbyist with the reso, so take my opinions as they deserve to be taken. The strings are warm and pleasant. Not too bright or twangy. I like the Jerry Douglas-type sound, and these produce it, so if you're looking for that type of tone, these strings can deliver. Of course, it also helps if you have a good reso (which I do) and Jerry Douglas-type talent (which I don't).

D'Addario is all I use on my guitars. From bass to lead, D'Addario lasts longer and sounds better with no breakage.

Very good as usual. Would like to see a set with 017 and 019 first and second strings for the better(stronger) dobros. As it is I must make up my own sets using an EJ42 plus a 17 and 19 which I must buy separately, then the 16 and 18 are waisted. Stan

Definitely improved the sound of my guitar and the feel of my resonator.

However (Oh boy) there is a black rust spot on my high E string which I am afraid is where the string will break in the future. Watch your quality control D'Addario!!

These strings made an already nice-sounding resonator sound even better. I've played D'Addario electric and acoustic strings for years, and have never been disappointed with their quality or longevity. The color coding is handy too.
