Product Description

An ultra-fine layer of EXP Coating is bonded to the nickelplated steel outer wrap wire which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. EXP coated nickel wound bass strings have a natural round wound feel and sound fresh and bright with a "new string tone" that lasts three to four times longer than traditional guitar strings.

I have tried coated strings on my electric basses before and didn't like them. They do last longer before degrading but the start off not nearly as bright as uncoasted strings. The same is true for these bronze coated strings. They are not as bright as the uncoated counterparts - they will probably last longer before needing to be changed but they are about 50% as bright as the uncoated version right from the start.

My recommendation is to get the uncoated strings - you will have to replace them more often but they are not as expensive either and they are much brighter. I tend to change strings as soon as they start to lose the "clank" so I change more often than a lot of players do but I don't like the dull sound of used strings. These coated strings have that dull feel and sound right out of the box. But they do perform as advertised - they stay about the same as they are new for a much longer time than uncoated. They just are not worth the trade off for me.
