Just tried these on yesterday. Break-in time was near nil. The two lower - tungsten winding on silver G and C are OK - thinner and easier to play than tungsten/chrome or chrome/steel but less sound.

That said, I quickly dumped the new titanium uppers - way too many wolves. Wolf on fourth position F on the G string is normal, but F in first position on the D??? That's a new one. Also, if fingers aren't absolutely solid on the string, way too easy to get a completely scrambled sound on the A. So, unreliable for fast passages. And no coloration at all. So, I have nothing good to say about the uppers.

With unlimited funds, I'd get good chrome steel winding on steel core (maybe Larsens or Larsen soloist) for the A, D, and C strings, with tungsten on steel for the G to add resonance. Haven't tried Larsen lowers, but heretofore, adding tungsten/steel for the C string made my overall sound too nasal, plus that combo required too much left hand force.

When i was thinking about changing my intrument strings, i searched for some recommendations. One of those mentioned this helicore strings set as one real interesting because it was not so expensive and because it souded really good. So i decided to try it on and i found that the recomendations was right. It really sounds clear and soft, just the way i was searching for, and, the most important, it was not so expensive. I really recommend it.

I've owned both the Helicore light and medium tension strings, and use them as G and C strings. This review only pertains to those two. So maybe this can give shoppers an idea going through either route. Of course, every cello is different. Results will vary. But this is my experience.
The light tensions shine in terms of tone and playability. Of course, lighter tension means pressing down is achieved with less effort. This kind of ease makes fast runs much less strenuous, and this is especially true with the Helicores. Very easy to play. The tone is surprisingly warm, and it has a sort of smokiness that I was not expecting.
Light tension also means projection won't have quite the volume of mediums or high tensions. I was expecting this, but not to such an extent. The flaw of the light tension Helicores is that their projection is pretty minimal. That was a serious drawback for me. This can be compensated for using more pressure on the bow, etc., but that just means you're trading strain in the left hand for strain in the right. and even then, it doesn't get quite the volume that I would like it to. However, playing pianissimo is amazingly easy to accomplish. I guess that's a plus. So if you're putting these on an electric cello, they're still a great buy.
The medium tensions definitely resolve the problem of projection (although i still get better projection out of medium Spirocores). Tone is still great (though I prefer the tone of the light tensions). Playability is still really pleasant (but of course, not as effortless as the lights).
Between the two tensions, I'd give the light tensions 3 stars and the mediums 4 stars.

I asked a professional cellist for cello string recommendations and also where I could get the best prices online. He recommended these strings for me and cited some popular suppliers he thought had good prices. I looked at their prices and decided to see if Amazon even carried these. I was happily surprised to see they did AND at a lower price than any other place I searched. I thought I might have to wait longer for delivery but order came in 1 week!

This are great strings for amateur cellist. We used them to restring my wife's practice cello. They should last for years.

I bought one set and liked them. They were a pretty good deal. Tone overall is nice although the A string is pretty bright. I bought a second set at that price but didn't inspect them until I wanted to change strings. The C string in the new set was not only used, but actually dirty and completely unraveled and frayed where the string sits on the bridge. Since I'm over the return timeframe I hope getting a return or replacement won't be a pain. We'll see...

Wow! D'Addario continues to impress. Helicore cello strings are known to have great G & C strings, which they absolutely did. However, I was thoroughly surprised by how gorgeous the D sounds. The A is a tad too bright in comparison, but I imagine best in class for the dollar value.

Over-all the strings have excellent response even when using a fiberglass bow.

My son purchased these to use while playing cello in a pre-collegiate youth symphony. I cannot remember what strings preceded these but he said that these were a great improvement and he likes the tone and feel.
