Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Scaled to fit 4/4 size violin with a playing length of 13 inches (328mm), these medium tension strings are optimized to the needs of a majority of players. Packaged in uniquely-designed sealed pouches providing unparalleled protection from the elements that cause corrosion.

Prelude violin strings are manufactured using a solid steel core. Unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, they have excellent bow response. Prelude strings have the warmest sound available in an affordable, solid steel core string design. Prelude is the educator's preferred choice for student strings due to their unique blend of warm tone, durability, and value.

D'Addario, the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings, is known worldwide for unsurpassed quality and consistency. D'Addario continues to develop and manufacture exceptional strings and accessories for violin, viola, cello and double bass, incorporating innovative packaging that reduces waste and provides protection from corrosion. All D'Addario strings are manufactured in the U.S.A. using proprietary, digitally controlled, state-of-the-art machinery for unmatched performance, set after set.

Product Description

Pro-Arte synthetic core violin strings have a warm, mellow tone. They are less sensitive to humidity and temperature changes, and break in quickly. Pro-Arte strings are designed at a lower tension in order to maximize bow response, tonal blend and playability. A good choice if a warmer, darker tone than steel strings is desired. Scaled to fit 4/4 size violin with a playing length of 13 inches (328mm), light tension strings allow for easier bow response. Pro-Arte light tension violin strings are available as a single strings only.

I bought a set of these strings for my student violin of which I continue to play with into college and after in a community orchestra. My student instrument tends to prefer the inexpensive strings and sounds better with them, hence my title to each instrument its own. But I find this set to be warm and beautiful like a gut set even though the strings are steel. On my more expensive instrument I prefer the Pirastro brand like Pirastro Gold and I feel as though the Prelude's compare. The Piastro Gold is sharper and deeper/darker with some brightness to it. The Preludes have the same warmth, but is more sweeter sounding than the Golds. Furthermore, it takes little time for it to acclimate than the Gold and is far cheaper. It may sound a little more muted than the Gold, but I'm happy with the projection of the Prelude if I can get a smooth, sweet, sound like I do. It doesn't sound broken or harsh, the Preludes are smooth like buttah and they last a long time (not as long as SuperSensitives, but long enough).

I actually prefer this over the ProArte.

I recently started learning to play an electric violin and had to replace one of my strings. I had no idea what I was doing, but these strings were affordable and highly rated. So, I gave them a go. I'm glad I did! These strings will be your best friend if you are a novice player who has fumbled tuning the strings a time or two. The inside of the envelope reveals a color code for each string (G,D,A,E), and I had no trouble at all replacing my broken string with one of these for the very first time. The replacement blends in with the other steel strings that my violin came with. If you don't want your practice to be held up with a broken string, I highly recommend buying two or three of these packs for backup!

I prefer Shar's Overture premieres which are the same price. These ones are a little too "bright" in sound and not deep or resonant enough. Also bear in mind these are not dominants which are clearly far superior - but for which you would be paying $50 a set.

I chose these because the reviews seemed better than the cheaper strings and I am too cheap to pay more. They sound much better than the stock strings on a Cremona SV-150. It sounded hideous, but I assumed it was all simply me not knowing how to play. Come to find out I only sucked half as bad as I thought! They are much easier to keep in tune, and I have even learned to make pleasant noises with my violin. Hopefully that will turn into music one day!

7 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Kris Irvin on August 29, 2012
I am very new to the violin and bought the cheapest one I could find off eBay. That means my violin kind of sucks in tone and quality, but I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an instrument I didn't love. Of course, my cheap-o strings broke immediately so I replaced them with these.

These strings hold up very well to the abuse a brand new violin player gives them. They're pretty hardy and they haven't snapped yet, despite 6 months of tuning up every day. The rosin sticks to them and is hard to wipe off completely but that may be normal to violins in general. In short, if you are just starting to play and not sure if you're going to stick with it, these strings are perfect. Once you've decided to love the violin forever and become an expert, that's when it's time to spend the big bucks.

Replaced my set of stock strings after a week on my new student violin. the A and E strings on this Prelude set can do much better job than the stock set when playing higher notes. Great for student or budget minded without breaking your budget.

You know that feeling when you get a brand new violin and have to tune it frequently until it learns to stay? Well about my third tuning and I broke one of the strings and needed a replacement, this is a complete set and at a reasonable price so I decided to get it. String is great and I haven't had any issues since.

I highly recommend if only for having in case of emergency.
