5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, but use quickly...
I really enjoyed this product in my little experiment to find out what truffles taste like. It arrived quickly and well refrigerated. The taste sensation (first on toast points) was great. But I found that the flavor went "off" after just a few days in the fridge, so if I order it again, I will either plan to use it quickly or freeze it between usages instead of just...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected...
Having tried and loved the D'Artangnan white truffle butter, I bought the black for a risotto. Not sure if i got a bad batch, but I found NO truffle flavor or aroma whatsoever. I see truffle looking bits but it tastes like butter with soy sauce. Quite disappointing.

But I found that the flavor went "off" after just a few days in the fridge, so if I order it again, I will either plan to use it quickly or freeze it between usages instead of just refrigerating it.

I am a complete novice on gourmet foods, my experience with truffle butter may not apply to anyone else...Larry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Must Have Gotten A Bad Batch, January 17, 2009

This was not at all what I expected. I don't know if that batch I got was old or what, but it did not have truffle flavor! I could see the truffle in the butter, but there was none of that intense earthy aroma. Undeterred, I proceeded to use it to season my Thanksgiving turkey. I was so disappointed. Because I was depending on the butter almost exclusively for flavor, the turkey was bland.

I ended up using the truffle and salt mix I purchased from Williams-Sonoma at the table. This was not the stellar meal I had planned. For Christmas, I used the same technique on cornish hens. This time, I used shelf-stable truffle butter from Williams-Sonoma. The birds were outstanding.

This product had zero truffle flavor, and basically was one pound of butter with black specs that cost $60 per pound. I think that this product must be very old as I have found that truffle oils lose their flavor after a couple of months. I think D'Artagnon should have better quality control. I don't think I would ever buy gourmet, perishable foods from Amazon or D'Artagnan again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black Truffle Butter, December 22, 2008

I was very happy with my Black Truffle Butter order. It came fast, well packed, with lots of still very cold "cold packs". Used it for the best turkey I ever made.

I have not ordered on Amazon, but had to review the product hoping to bump up the rating average! This is an unusual blend of black truffles, creamy butter and soy sauce, and it is delicious! While I agree that some products have a more pronounced truffle flavor, I love that added "umami" of the soy sauce when I dollop this on a perfectly rare ribeye.
