Pros: Price, compatibility, power!
Cons: NONE!!! Do not hesitate to purchase this battery. I have 4 of them for my 7D and in 3'months I have only charged them one time because they last so long. They ARE fully compatible with the original charger and the camera battery info with charger remaining, number of shutters, and battery health. A great buy!!!

I bought this battery as a 2nd battery for my Canon 60D's battery grip. It works just like the OEM Canon, it charged up the first time and my 60D recognized the battery's info immediately. Simply said it works and the bonus is the price.I have owned both OEM Canon and 3rd party batteries in my Rebel XTi, overall the OEM Canon's lasted longer in the field and had a longer life span the other 3rd party batteries but the price of the 3rd party batteries cannot be beaten. I would recommend this battery to any Canon 60D owner. ***** Update: one year with this battery and it is still strong but not as strong as the OEM Canon. It only charges up to 70-75% but it still more than adequate especially for the money. I still recommend. Paul 6-Feb 2012. *****

A good value. While listed as a 2000 Mah battery, I find it does not last as long as the OEM battery from Canon. During an average shoot (200 or so exposures) by OEM battery will be down to 90% and this battery will be siting at 75 to 85%. This is being used as the second battery in a battery grip, and I consider myself to be a hard user of my cameras. While I am not disappointed with the performance of this battery, if you are a heavy user (read semi-pro or pro) I would not recommend this as the primary battery for your cameras. Great as a back-up, or if you are a casual user of your camera.

I have had this battery for my Canon 7D for a couple of months. Initially, it did not want to charge in the Canon charger (it went from "10% charged" to "100%" in a manner of minutes), but that only seemed to be the case for the first charge. I put it in the camera and ran it until the camera said it was done, then charged it overnight. It behaves properly now.
I have not done a careful test of the longevity of this battery versus the Canon battery that came with my 7D. Both batteries last so long (days!) that I cannot say for sure that one battery lasts longer than the other. So I conclude that this battery is a good second battery for your Canon 7D.

I got a bad one :(,
This review is from: Maximal Power DB CAN LP-E6 Rechargeable Replacement Li-Ion Battery for Canon Cameras (Black) (Electronics)
I had great luck with Maximal when I owned a t2i. So naturally when I jumped up to 60d, I came back to the maximal brand for my back-up battery. On the first charge it was fine. After it was depleted, my Canon charger couldn't charge it anymore. The Canon charger will blink orange in intervals of 3 or 2, or solid green when it's completely charged. The charger was blinking non-stop, no interval patterns. I knew that was a bad sign from my experience. So I charged my real canon battery just to make sure it was not my charger, and it wasn't. I got a replacement and all is fine now. I understand there are duds in every product from time to time. This shouldn't discourage you to buy this battery, especially when Amazon is really good at refunds and replacements. I will update and bump up the stars If all goes well after a few more charges.
6-22-2011 UPDATE: Forgot to update this review until someone commented on my review. My replacements have been charging properly. Confirming my previous one was indeed defective. Will bump this up 2 stars!

I bought two of these batteries for use in a grip. That's when the problems began.Because the manufacturer made a simple clone of the "smart" chip Canon designed, all of their batteries come through with the same embedded serial number. If using only one of these at a time, this would go unnoticed. Load two into a grip and the grip has a hard time determining the number of shots taken on each because the camera can't tell the two batteries apart. Swapping their position in the grip, causes the camera to lose track of which pack is which, and the charge level and shot count will be wrong. not good! Both batteries were drained down to the point that the camera wouldn't turn on. Fifteen or twenty seconds after inserting the first battery into the OEM Canon charger, the red light flashed rapidly. Consulting the manual revealed that the charger was not able to communicate with the chip, and therefore shut down the charging process. The second battery had exactly the same issue. Ultimately both batteries were returned to Amazon within the 30-day window for a full refund.

I was hesitating to buy these. They work just perfect with my Canon 60D for less than half the price a Canon battery!
Don't hesitate!

UPDATE: I contacted maximal power directly about the defective battery and received an email response within 30 MINUTES!! This company has outstanding customer service. They provided me an RMA still that same day and I shipped the battery back. About one week later I had a working replacement. The batteries work great I have used them on several occasions for weddings. I simply cant say enough about the company and their excellent customer service. Oh and i dealt with the same rep with every email, which i like. It says a lot about a mfr when they stand behind a product like this. Go with these!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought 3 of these so I would have a total of 4 batteries for my 60D. Well 2 of them work great, one is not recognized by the camera and takes a very long time (nearly overnight) to reach a full charge. I will be contacting Amazon about exchanging the third one for a non-defective item and I will see how the 2 that do work hold up starting with this weekend's shoot. I am still hopeful about the 2 that do work, they seem high quality, charged up quickly and are recognized by the camera. Hopefully I'll have a better review once this is resolved. |
