This review is from: DB2 Universal Database: Performance & Tuning for OS/390 Version 6 VOL I (Spiral-bound)
I maintain a high volume DB2 shop. The formulas I found in this book for determining system usage for implementing new user apps, utilizing DB2 Estimator, Optimizer and DB2 PM has made my work easier to monitor and maintain. The formulas for system capacity, usage, and thruput work. I really didn't think they would but they do. I don't need IBM manuals, I need more books like this one.

My shop was in the stages of upgrading and I had purchased this book. After reading thru it I gained a number of insights into assisting me with our conversion efforts. I found valuable capacity planning methodologies, physical design methodologies and tuning pointers that has made my job a lot easier. I am now a jr. DBA in my shop. I was a data base analyst. The investment was well worth it.

I think this is a good book for someone who does not have the time or patience to go through the IBM manuals . But nothing new or any insights about how things work inside . Still I think it is not a bad book . Ram
