Batman is the first in a new line of stylized urban vinyl Uni-Formz, inspired by the red-hot designer toy phenomenon. DC direct has joined forces with popular contemporary toy designer monster 5 to create this unique version of Batman. This bold new take on the caped crusader is a must-have for collectors of contemporary toy design, as well as traditional fans of Batman. Debuting this month are three style of Batman: the "modern" Batman in his black costume, a variant version in the "classic" blue and grey costume, and an ultra-stylized variant "armored" version. These designer toys are limited. Once they are sold out, DC direct will not produce these styles again. In keeping with the tradition of designer toys, rarity of certain incarnations is the norm. The Batman variants "classic" and "armored" will be produced in far lower quantities. Have you ever got an item and thought it was really cool until you take it out of the box? Well this particular toy kinda suffers from that fault. In the box you see a smaller, more stalky looking Batman that just looks menacing. The box is very nice and gives the figure a very nice presentation. Well this works all very nice because, well, he's in a box. Upon taking him out, he seems to be the same figure you saw from inside the box but something is just different. Take for instance, the way he stands. He's got a semi hunched over look and some arms that are straight down like he's ready to lay a beat down on somebody. That's all fine and dandy except the fact he looks like he's looking somewhat down. So if you have him on your everyday average shelf, it just looks like he's trying to punk some ants or maybe a smaller animal. I don't know, maybe a downed enemy? That would be cool but they never made a joker. So to remedy this problem, he definitely looks a lot cooler if you put him on a higher shelf, kinda like he's looking down on Gotham or something? Yeah, I'm a dork.
The articulation is very limited, but what do you really expect? It's actually not limited in the everyday sense, his armed move up and down and his legs swivel, etc. but there's really only one pose that actually works to make him look good. The same pose you see him in the box. Just standing there. Although I'm pretty sure that anybody looking to buy this item already knows this.
The paint is cool but is a flat paintjob which is prone to scratching from extensive handling. But once again, I think everybody knows this already.
To tell you the truth, this figure looks equally as cool in the box as out, but for me personally, I don't like that idea. Toys are meant to be displayed, and I guess played with if you're a smaller kid.
Soooooo, to wrap up everything I'm saying, get it if you're a hard core batman fan and you must get all the batman fix you need. But if your an average fan that is just kinda wondering if to get it, just take what I say into consideration, but I'm pretty sure you'll be happy overall. I just don't like the stance, hence the 4 star rating.
