5.0 out of 5 stars boy meets band, January 26, 2002

This review is from: DC Talk - Rap, Rock & Soul [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I would have to say that dc talk is one of those bands who, through the years, has stayed true to its roots. Standing firmly upon the ROCK (JESUS CHRIST) they've fought their share of battles and have remained role model staples for the christian youth! When I first watched this video back in the early 90's I hadn't shaved yet and my voice was changing. The point is that my spirituality was still vulnerable to fake christians, who were talking the talk but stumbling in the dark. DC TALK opened up themselves on camera in a way that allowed the viewer to see a side of the band they could not have seen any other way. The guys are truthful, funny, and at ease with themselves and their new found popularity on camera. The videos are definitely old school but the lyrical value is timeless. Everyone needs to see this video to appreciate how far the band has come. Toby's lyrics were hip-hop scripture back then. Now all three guys have leaned more towards the poetic, but without "watering down the spine" of hardcore in your face JESUS IS LORD lyrical genius!!! This video will make you laugh at the wardrobe and lingo of the day but the spiritual value will lift your spirits. I like to play it while I'm cleaning or studying, etc... It is priceless! I love these guys!

This video was very entertaining and uplifting. It was done before Toby, Kevin, and Michael were so well known. They were young and still learning show business, but it is a very well done video. If you need a pick me up, watch this video, it will make you laugh and encourage you in your faith. Great job guys!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating for the fan, but strange to the onlooker..., December 27, 1998

This is definitely a collector's item for the ultimate dc Talk fan, especially if you enjoyed their first two albums. This video tells the stories that we all love to hear about the origins of dc Talk, and if you went to one of their very first concerts, you are probably in the video. If this video does anything, it shows how far a band can get in 8-10 years. If you've heard Jesus Freak or Supernatural, check this video out to discover the background of one of Christian music's greatest successes. It gets a little weird at times, and a little boring at others, but for the most part you will be amazed at how much a band can change. A must for musicians.
