3.0 out of 5 stars Great Video... Must buy for DCTalk fans!
I loved this video, and most of all the interviews of each of the three members, Toby, Mike and Kevin. It was very insightful and often very funny. To be honest though the mixing of the audio on the concert footage was not very well done. The voices are overpowering and it focused too often on the wrong spots of the stage at the wrong time. On top of this, the concept...

Kevin's tour of the house and interaction with his wife is so cool. Toby introducing his first baby is such a bonus! And I've been wanting to hear Mike's thoughts on his dad, after he died. There's extras, but i'll let you see for yourself. Of course "Welcome to the Freak Show: Live in Concert" is hard too beat, but i think "Supernatural Experience" video past the test with flying colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Supernatural Experience Has NO Equal!, April 27, 2000

There was some doubt in my mind when i bought this video. I thought it could be as good a Welcome to the Freak Show or as bad as Rap, Rock, and Soul(which wasn't that bad, actually.) But when I popped this tape in, at first it seemed to be the same old concert clips. But once Toby started talking about golf Kevin about his home and family, and Michael about his dad dying when he was on the phone with him, it just sent me past heaven. Even if you hate DC Talk, everyone should listen to the clip from the E.R.A.C.E. rally. When Toby said we need to ask for forgiveness from all black people and Michael said that they need to forgive us, I was struck like a thunderbolt. If you've never heard their music, you'll catch on quickly

To be honest though the mixing of the audio on the concert footage was not very well done. The voices are overpowering and it focused too often on the wrong spots of the stage at the wrong time. On top of this, the concept music videos didn't make much sense. (i.e. My Friend So Long) The Consume Me video was really cool, and creative. Otherwise, I must say that Red Letters was powerful and moved me nearly to tears. You must buy the video for this song alone.

If you saw them in concert or not, you must buy this video. Despite the few quirks, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I invested in this archive of a lifetime. Especially at this price, it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Experience is just what it says - dc Talk is it, May 24, 2004
By A Customer
Wow. Just watched this insightful 75-minute video, which mixes impressive live concert footage shot in May 1999 on the trio's "Supernatural Tour," interviews with Michael, Toby and Kevin, and two music videos -- the strong "So Long" and the incredible "Consume Me." It's interesting to hear the guys talk about the video shoots - the reason behind the song and video for "So Long;" how the icy, sci-fi vibe of "Consume Me" wasn't created just from the camera's hazy, colored filters. Audio of the DVD, which I heard is a transfer of the videocassette of the same name, is a strong stereo signal, and the picture, somewhat surprisingly considering it originally was shot for videotape distribution, is very sharp and clear with lots of details and depth. Highlights include a rousing "It's Killing Me," a moving version of "Red Letters" and a fine, spiritual take on "Into Jesus." This visual journey is a great peek inside Christian rock's modern musical warriors who threw open the doors for later artists like Third Day, Kutless, Skillet and Delirious? Simply put, dc Talk made music that continues to beat the work of all secular artists under the age of 40 (minus Coldplay and David Gray). Also noteworthy on the DVD is seeing bassist Otto Price in action on the stage - he provided the gritty bottom end on the "Jesus Freak" and "Supernatural" LPs, as well as Pete Stewart's eponomously-titled CD in 1999. (Stewart played those ghostly, innovative guitars on the "Supernatural" CD, a collaboration which served as the embryo for Michael's solo band, Tait, in 2001.) Although it's far from the trio's hip-hop/rap origins back in 1989/90, "The Supernatural Experience" is a must-own DVD, especially for the low selling price, along with the "Jesus Freak" and "Supernatural" CDs. Watching the DVD will make you hope that Michael tours again with dc Talk in addition to balancing duties between his upcoming tour with Carlos Santana and work with his Tait solo band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Add it to your dct collection!, February 24, 2000
This review is from: DC Talk - The Supernatural Experience [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This Video is a wonderful addition to all the dc Talk videos (narrow is the road, welcome to the freakshow, Video Singles) This one tops 'em all off! I myself am a huge dc Talk fan, and after I purchased this video I was a little nervous about all of the rumors that have been circulating around lately, I thought, "Hey, what if they are true?" I was so happy to find this to be a fun in-depth look at dc Talk, and please tell everyone that you know.... dc Talk is not breaking up anytime soon, for those of you who aren't on their e-mailing list, they are taking a "breather" this year and taking some time to do some solo projects that they've been waiting to do for awhile. (Well, at least Mike & Kevin will for sure, Toby will continue to work on some Gotee records projects). Micheal is working with his new band-"Tait", and Kevin has already released his first solo album-"London Cowboy". dc Talk is also NOT satanic. Don't believe what everyone tells you, these are probably the efforts of those who believe in the supposed "evils" of rock n' roll and would jump at the chance to expose it, or those who must insist on judging others. I agree with whoever it was that wrote this but, the sound quality was a little shaky, it was definitely not as big as the Supernatural Experience concert itself,(but, what video ever is?) But, I loved it, I especially liked how it showed the personal sides of dc Talk (baby Truett is so cute!) I'd say this is a must-buy for all dc Talk fans, it's definitely worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Super"natural Experience, December 8, 1999

This review is from: DC Talk - The Supernatural Experience [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a fan of DC Talk since the days of "Heavenbound" I have been to every tour this trio has performed, but was unable to get to the Supernatural tour, and after seeing this video I'm still kicking myself. The video is great, and DC Talk is still as good live as they are on their albums. I also liked the interviews that give us insight of the production and the band's personal life. There are two music videos (Consume Me, My Friend) that are both good. I loved this video, and any true DC Talk fan would too. My only question is, Live from the Freak Show (album) was excellent, will there be a Live from the Supernatural Experience?

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Supernatural, December 17, 1999

With all the rumors surrounding dc Talk, I was a little sceptical about buying their latest long form video. However, I believe this may be one of the best purchases I've made this past year. I attended the Supernatural Experience tour and watching this video allowed me to relive all of those great memories from this past April. The live clips, especially those of "Supernatural", "Dive", "Since I met you", and "Between You and Me", were amazing and the music videos to "Consume Me" and "My Friend (So Long)" were probably some of their best ever. The best part of the video came during their interviews. They re-enforced the fact that they are a band of Christians living for Jesus! To sum up this video, the line of the song "Supernatural" sums it all up, "God is here, and he is watching"

This video of DC Talk's is the best one they ever put out. You get a closer look at the band and their families. Alayna, Amanda, and Truett are in there! Plus you get a tour of Kmax's house, Michael producing the Pete S. record and Toby playing golf and hanging with his son Truett. YOu also hear DCT talk about the Jesus Freak book and the ERACE foundation they're working with. It's diffently worth the buy, even if your not a big fan, because you start to see these men's hearts and their love for Jesus!

The video was awesome; I did see the concert in Portland, OR, and it was even more fun to experience it again. I really loved how viewers got to meet the families and share experiences with them.
