I, along with thousands of Black Canary fans, was looking forward to the release of this figure. The preview photos looked amazing - her legs were even going to have actual fabric fishnet stockings. Second to hubby Green Arrow (honorable mentions to Mantis), she was the most sought after figure in Wave 9. But then my enthusiasm waned when I found out something about the figure: due to the inclusion of the fishnet stockings, the hip joint articulation point which allows a figure's leg to sway out would not be present. This was a major disappointment for a figure of a heroine who is trained in martial arts. Roundhouse kick pose? No. Her boots can be turned but it hardly replaces that lost hip joint. The sculpt itself is comic book accurate and Barbie doll beautiful albeit a bit thin. If you're a Black Canary fan, this is possibly the best action figure of her out now. If you're a DCUC fan, it's just one more figure on the "almost perfect" pile.

I got this figure today and I like it but then I saw that her leg was like flexible but I think they all do that. This figure also comes with a Chemo lower torso.

5.0 out of 5 stars DC Universe Classics: Back in Black Fishnets - the Black Canary, April 2, 2010

The sultry siren, Dinah Lance (the second Black Canary), returns to her original costume of blue & black tights and fishnets in this stellar DC Universe Classics action figure.

Although Black Canary's head is tilted in such a way that it gives her a slightly hunched-over appearance, the figure otherwise possesses a top notch sculpting job, from her dirty blond hair down to the realistic fishnets she is famous for. In addition to having minimal articulation points for posing, I also noticed that the figure has trouble standing up on its own, so you might want to prop her up on a display base or against a wall.

Still, all in all, she has perhaps some of the best facial features of any DC Universe female character produced thus far. To that end, I give the manufacturers kudos for putting in the extra effort for appreciative consumers. I will also say that the figure is best for display only, as its durability with kids at play time will likely be short-lived.

As for its added attraction, you'll get a piece of the toxic menace, Chemo, if you intend to collect all of the other figures in this wave.

Rating: 9.5/10 - For display purposes only .... it's an excellent companion figure to the same wave's fantastic Green Arrow!!

P.S. A sound chip would have been a great novelty for this figure. Hence, her sonic canary cry is not included.

Dinah Lance a/k/a Black Canary is a martial artist crime fighter with a "Canary Cry" - a super powerful scream that can incapacitate opponents, break things, etc. She also is married to Green Arrow. This is the DC Universe Wave 9 version.

For Kids:
While she's been featured in some Batman Brave and the Bold cartoons and probably a few other places the figure itself is unfortunately a little lackluster. She's not as well articulated as she might have been. I'd have to say medium for kids. They might enjoy her if they are a fan.

For Adults:
There's definitely some good here. Her face is beautifully sculpted keeping up the new tradition of surprising attractive female faces in this line. Her cuffed boots, jacket sleeves and necklace are all well done too and her short jacket looks nice. But there's also some bad here. Her hair is a thick matt (not helped by the paint) and her body proportions seem a bit... off to me. Her too thin waist is right up under her chest then her hips flare out into large strong legs with thick thighs. But her arms are super thin twigs with tiny hands. She's attractive but wonky I guess. Her knee joints don't seem very sturdy and thus her legs tend to bow out past the knees on mine as well. Last, in a cool touch they included "real" fishnet stockings on her legs but this plus lends itself to other issues.

Her skin tones and black and blue costume are clean and nice as is her necklace. They've gone with blue legs under the black cloth stockings, it's accurate but part of me would have liked to have seen the bare legs under stockings version - would have made a cool variant anyway. The biggest issue to me is that her blonde hair is painted in such a way that the word "clumpy" comes to mind.

Articulation - Neck is nil due to the hair. She does have ball/pin shoulders however some upward movement is restricted due to the jacket. She's got pin elbows and cut wrists hidden right at the end of her jacket sleeves. There is a useless ab crunch - it's there but it does not do anything. She has a cut waist cut thighs, pin knees, cuts at the top of her boots and a pin ankle and most disappointingly she only has a simple "T" joint at the hips that only allow the legs to move forward - there's no back or out movement here. Additionally most of the leg articulation is hindered by the fishnets as you have to work with and be concerned about them any time you want to try to move the legs around. I know the "real" fishnets seemed like a good idea but they really hinder the figure.

She comes with her piece of Chemo.

I really, really want to like this figure but wonky proportions, clumpy hair paint, bent/weak knee joints, lacking articulation and in the way fishnets add up to something less than desired. I'll have to say 2 ½ and round down. :-(

The collect and connect (CC) is Chemo - a walking toxic waste barrel. He's made of clear green plastic with bubbles sculpted in - and lots of additional bubbles in the variant version. He's simplistic in nature but the sculpted areas look really good. He's also pretty big and several inches over the standard figures. His is a limited set of articulation but he's really fun to look at, especially with a light behind him. 3 ½ to 4 on Chemo.
