5.0 out of 5 stars Best Hal Jordan...EVER!...so far, September 23, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: DC Universe Classics Series 3 Action Figure Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) (Toy)
I was surprised, which is saying a lot considering I'm an avid toy collector and have been snatching up the other DC Universe Classics figures.

This figure of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern is exactly what the namesake of the toyline proclaims: CLASSIC.

Its Jordan, in the uniform, ring on finger, and with the power battery. It's simple, but perfect. I couldn't be happier with it. DC Direct has some ne GL figures in the pipeline, but none are as articulated as this one.

I highly recommend buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars DC Universe Classics: Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, September 8, 2008

This review is from: DC Universe Classics Series 3 Action Figure Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) (Toy)
From DC Universe Classics' third series comes the legendary Emerald Gladiator himself: the fearless Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. Suffice to say, based upon this action figure alone, Mattel certainly deserves significant credit for how close it is coming to matching DC Direct as today's best producer of superhero figures for mass audiences.

While DC Direct has a superior display-only rendition of Green Lantern from "Justice: Series 3" by Alex Ross, this DC Universe Classic figure is still an excellent runner-up with the added advantage of being appropriate for all ages, particularly for kids who want a toy more sophisticated than the smaller "Justice League Unlimited" figures. In fact, when I first saw this Green Lantern figure, it seemed like the same cartoon character from the old "Challenge of the Super Friends" animated television show had suddenly come to life before my eyes. The resemblance is that good.

Now, for the most pertinent question: does the actual figure resemble the promotional photo's representation of it? My answer is: yes!

The only odd note about the figure is his accessory. The lantern power battery in the display photo shares the same emerald hue as Jordan's costume, but the actual toy lantern's shade of green resembles that of a lime popsicle. The lantern just isn't as well-produced as the photo implies. Perhaps this discrepancy was simply a manufacturing glitch or, more likely, it was a cost-saving measure.

At any rate, if you remember owning the vintage Kenner "Super Powers" figure from nearly 25 years ago like I do, this new Mattel figure will definitely bring back some fond memories. Further, as Hal Jordan's best DC Direct figures can be somewhat pricey and hard to locate, this Green Lantern rendition should well suit your expectations for a high-caliber figure. Speaking of which, I would rate this particular figure's sculpting and paint job easily a few notches above the Hal Jordan / Green Lantern figure from the first wave in DC Direct's own "Green Lantern" series.

Despite the minor discrepancy with the lantern accessory, I highly recommend this Green Lantern figure from DC Universe Classics. It is well worth your investment.

Rating: Excellent.
My Score: 9.75 (on a scale of 1 -10).

4.0 out of 5 stars A great figure, but enough with the Hal Jordans!, March 28, 2009

This review is from: DC Universe Classics Series 3 Action Figure Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) (Toy)
One of the many problems that I've had over the years with DC figures is that they seemed to only be 'figurines' or 'statues' as opposed to action figures. The sculpts were very nice, but they had little-to-no points of articulation, and they were exorbitantly priced. But then DC got down off of their 'collectable only' pedestal and started following the amazing work done by Marvel and Toy Biz/Hasbro on the MARVEL LEGENDS series; making beautifully sculpted figures with dozens of points of articulation that you can actually play with AND that are also affordable. This was something that DC DIRECT had been missing, but they joined forces with Mattel and started making the DC UNIVERSE figures, which like the Marvel figures, have the above improvements.

Now, they've been making consistently better figures since their trial run with the Batman and Superman-related figures, and have expanded their figure repertiore with Silver Age, Bronze Age and Modern Age heroes ranging from the obscure (Big Barda, Firestorm, Etrigan, Batman Beyond, Cyborg, etc.) to the must-haves (Green Lantern, Nightwing, Wonder Woman, The Riddler). And this figure of Hal Jordan as GREEN LANTERN is no exception. It's a beautiful figure with many many points of articulation. And moreso, it's affordable.

My only problem with this figure is that it's yet another in the long line of the Hal Jordan Green Lantern figures that have collectors have been inundated with for the past several years. Give us a John Stewart, Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner GL with this same quality! This is easily a figure that could have had a variant of any of those other GL's, like they did with Sinestro, or the Artemis variant of Wonder Woman. So, I hope this is the last Hal Jordan for a while.
