This review is from: DCI I Am Not a Paper Cup 12-Ounce Porcelain Travel Cup with Lid (Kitchen)
I'll start with the questions I'm asked most often when someone discovers that I am a "I am not a paper cup" owner:- Q: Does the lid fall off? A: The only time it has fallen off was when I took a sharp turn and the cup fell out of the cup holder which was already filled with odds and ends. - Q: Does the lid leak around the edges? A: No, not at all. - Q: Does it get too hot when filled with a hot beverage? A: Nope. Not in the slightest. The double chambered wall does the job just fine. - Q: Does it get flavors "stuck" in it (e.g. coffee)? A: No they do not. This is why I've long been seeking a porcelain travel mug. Now I'll address my personal concerns when I first bought it: - I was afraid the textured surface of the outside would gradually stain with coffee and grime that would rub off my hand, but this has not yet happened. It did take a small purple spot for a while when it got rubbed up against something, but that eventually disappeared. - There's no air hole in the lid. This confused me to no end. Before my first use, I was constantly looking for a little hole along the lip or on the top because I was sure I had simply not seen it the last 3 times I had looked. The fact is that the lid is flexible enough to allow you to draw liquid from the cup without problem. This also limits the quantity you can take, but not significantly over the average lid of a paper cup. - There's a rubber plug on the bottom of the cup. I was tempted to pull it out to see if I could find a prize when I realized that the plug is probably there for a reason. I read the packaging and discovered that this plug keeps liquid from entering the chamber of air between the two layers of porcelain. I've been on a long quest for a quality ceramic mug and this guy hits the mark wonderfully. I've been recommending them to anyone who takes an interest.

I have been eyeballing this thing for a while, but just could not justify buying an $18 coffee travel mug.I finally caved... I had gotten frustrated by the fact that I accumulate an average of 4 or 5 Styrofoam cups a day on my desk. I wanted to be more environmentally responsible. I can use this cup as a regular and a travel mug, so it is versatile. I also cannot stand drinking coffee out of plastic, rubber, or steel travel mug. I am sensitive (ok i am a taste snob), and I can taste the plastic and metal in the coffee. NOT in this porcelain vessel; all you taste is the coffee. The other thing is the aesthetic qualities. This thing is functional art. I love the beauty and the symbolic duality it represents of disposable vs reusable. The thing is quirky. Ok, maybe I am over-analyzing this; it's only a cup. But I am glad I purchased it. The only thing is, if it slips out of my hand it will shatter. Fragile. So as long as I am cautious this thing is a good life-time investment in good tasting coffee and helping environment by reducing disposable cup usage.

A cup AND a conversation piece,

This review is from: DCI I Am Not a Paper Cup 12-Ounce Porcelain Travel Cup with Lid (Kitchen)
This product really does look like an actual paper cup, to the point of startling people with its un-paperlike sound when you set it down. For these reasons, it's an excellent conversation piece, or starter, or ice breaker at the office. The cup itself is approximately the same size as a so-called "Grande" paper cup at Starbucks (or "Medium" anywhere else). At 10 ounces, however, it holds far less coffee -- less even that that in a Starbucks "Tall" (or "Small"). The reason for this is the large amount of insulation in the cup. Other than that, the cup does its job. The one complaint I have is that the rubber lid gets easily stained; make sure to wash it frequently and completely. One last note: for some reason Amazon rates this product as a "toy," and therefore asks reviewers to rate its durability, "fun-ness," and educational value. Hence my attempts at reviewing for such aspects.

Sadly the lid leaks badly!,

I bought two of these and we adore the design. We were so disappointed that the cup immediately leaked! We tried over and over and could not get it to work without leaking all over our shirts!! I hope we just got a bum batch and everyone else's are fine.

Great idea...but mine leaks,

This review is from: DCI I Am Not a Paper Cup 12-Ounce Porcelain Travel Cup with Lid (Kitchen)
This thing looks great...smell from the lid disappears after the first day or so. Biggest problem is that it *does* leak from around the silicone lid. To be honest this one thing is seriously making me consider stopping using it as my mug of choice...very annoying as in all other respects it's perfect.

Okay, so I haven't really made up my mind on this product yet.Yes, the lid smells terrible, but once I got passed that I didn't notice a taste to my coffee. Hoping the smell goes away though (yuck). No, my lid did not leak, and I filled the mug to the rim before putting it on. Yes, this cup is deceiving, it is very heavy, and looks like it's a 16 0z. cup yet barely holds 10 oz (I have a Keurig and the 10 oz. button almost overflowed the mug). It kept my coffee warm (not hot) for about an hour. It wasn't cold, but definitely wasn't hot. I think I expected it to be. The biggest deterent right now is the weight. Not sure I want to lug this around....we'll see.

I love the concept and design of this cup. Unlike other reviewers, I have had ZERO problems with leaks. My one complaint with the product is the smell of the silicon lid. Even after multiple washings, the smell taints the taste of my coffee and ruins the whole experience.

Great Cup - Avoid The Pitfalls,
This review is from: DCI I Am Not a Paper Cup 12-Ounce Porcelain Travel Cup with Lid (Kitchen)
Some common complaints found among negative reviews:- The lid smells. Terribly. True. It really did stink out of the package. On the Amazon listing for the replacement lids, I found this: "Soak in boiling water with three lemon slices or wash normally using toothpaste instead of soap." Worked like a charm, and the smell was gone. - The lid leaks. Perhaps for some, but not for me. The only time I get leaking is when I overfill the cup. It holds only 8 oz., and filling it to the absolute brim makes it leak until you've drunk it down a bit. That being said, I love this cup. I've long searched for a ceramic to-go coffee mug that was insulated, and this is it. It doesn't keep coffee piping hot, but it keeps it warm, mircowavable, and far better tasting than plastic. And its a conversation piece to boot.

This cup/mug is exactly what I have been looking for. I love coffee and am somewhat of a mug collector. Until I purchased this mug yesterday, everything has either been a good mug for home or ok for the car but nothing has been good for both. This mug is great all around. Nice lip around the edge when drinking without the lid, white so I can see the quality of coffee (for those that know, you know...), nice heft to it, double walled construction for insulation....perfect!
