Hands down, this is probably the most insightful book i had ever come across. I am soon to graduate college and am very interested in a career with a federal law enforcement agency. Agent Rice does not hide the pleasures, and some of the horrors of the career. After reading the first page I was hooked and couldn't put it down. Many times career services people at schools or the guidance counselors try to explain what its like to be an agent, but they dont really understand. This book is better than blogs, websites, or other wiki sources. This book is an absolute must for anyone interested in the career or anyone who wants to read an intense, sometimes comical, action true life book on special agents in the federal government. The little things that you always wondered about are covered in this book. How is the academy? What is the process of transferring to different job assignments, is it really that awesome to go undercover? It's all talked about without restraint! Seriously consider reading the first few pages on Google Books if you aren't quite sure if you want to buy it, but after reading the first couples pages you wont be disappointed!

This is a well written and succint account of one man's drive and determination which took him from the projects of New York successfully completing college and entry into one of the most engaging of professions: Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Department of Justice. It appears that his personal challenges continued and were compounded by professional challenges experienced especially by African Americans. Agent Rice's book was inspirational as he explained how he successfully navigated these challenges in a meaningful and constructive manner rising to the very heights of federal government, so often thought to be nonachievable for a poor boy with no political or family connections. I highly recommend this book for those young adults, regardless of ethnicity, with a dream; as well as for ALL truly interested in seeing one man's successful balancing of all necessary to be successful personally and professionally in whatever your pursuits.

This book is absolutely terrible. Probably the most shallow thing I have read regarding this material. You would think someone who has spent this amount of time fighting the drug war could at least get the spelling of Colombia right.
Please skip this book. |
