Book Description

John's dead and in Heaven, listening to harps that don't quite sound as he expected. He's pretty happy about the whole thing, actually. His wife Melissa is ecstatic. Linda, though, suspects foul play - and she's not going to rest until she finds out what happened.

This is a very short book - novelette length - about 9000 words or 36 (print) pages.

The DEAD(ish) series may be read sequentially, beginning with DEAD(ish), or as standalone stories.

Warning: Contains frequent foul language, adult themes and weird Aussie-isms. Not suitable for children.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

John says:
So I died. So I don't remember how I died. I'm dead, I'm in heaven. That sounds like a happy ending to me. So why does Linda care so much? I don't.

Melissa says:
I've been mooning around heaven for years waiting for my husband to turn up. He finally makes it, and he's joined at the hip to a blonde tart who thinks clothes are 'like, so lame'. I am not happy.

Mack says:
I'm madder than a roo with sunstroke. I know nothing. Leave me alone!

Linda says:
There's something really weird going on here, and I want to know what, #### it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying wrap-up of the trilogy July 15, 2011
By Rich H.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The good: The main characters are now fully developed, exhibiting a genuine warmth and humanity that was a bit lacking in the earlier stories. Linda, in particular, having found her role in Heaven, has matured from an almost anti-hero into the real thing, losing none of her wickedly funny attitude in the process. The story, once again told from the viewpoints of the various characters, also exhibits a maturity and purpose that wasn't quite fully evolved in the earlier tales. An entertaining and, this time, fully satisfying read.

The bad: Again, as with book 2, this story pretty much assumes you've read the previous stories in the series; it doesn't completely stand on its own. Also, unlike many of the other reviewers, I have strong mixed feelings regarding possible future volumes. Books 2 and 3 are already a bit formulaic; a book 4 along the same lines could easily become hidebound and deadly (heh) dull. The good news here is that there is lots of potential for Ms. Kramer to develop a rich universe to play in - I can't begin to imagine what her version of Hell would be like - and escape that all-too-common trap.

Bottom line is, the DEAD(ish) series is a Good Read, this latest story particularly so. If a Book 4 comes along, I'll buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended! January 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
John is dead, and he couldn't be happier! His wife, who died of cancer earlier, is there to meet him, and he has all the time he could want to learn to play the guitar, or to surf, or whatever he wants to do. The trouble is, Linda has been assigned to mentor him, and she is bothered because John doesn't remember how he died. Plus, to make matters worse, John's wife totally doesn't get the idea of heaven - she has hung onto her Earth hang-ups regarding nudity, monogamy and propriety, which almost instantly puts her at logger-heads with Linda. Well, Linda refuses to let things lie and decides to find out what happened - off to Trent she goes. What will she find out?

Linda is really starting to amuse me - in the first book I didn't like her much, in the 2nd she was sort of overshadowed by Krystal, but in this book we finally get a better look at Linda herself, and start to get a bit of feel for her. I will warn the casual reader - this book is much more intricate than the previous two, so you need to pay a bit better attention - but it all comes together and makes perfect sense in the end. Recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny like the TV show "Dead Like Me" July 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you've ever seen the TV show Dead Like Me, this series' wit and whimsy reminds me of it. The books in this series would make a good television series, come to think of it. Highly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first two
This was my least favorite out of the series that I've read so far. A little too see through. I still enjoyed the concept and imagery of heaven, so I gave it four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What I Thought
I think this is the best book out of the three, even though it was pretty predictable. Still a crap load of spelling errors and British accents.

Wonderful though I wish it wasn't so short. I read each book in a little under an hour, and being as they are only three, they didn't last me long. Read more
