Sometimes Funerals Can Be FarcicalThis is a very funny British movie, a fast-moving farce that includes a gay dwarf, a guy tripp, March 5, 2009
This review is from: DEATH AT A FUNERAL (Blu-ray)
This is a very funny British movie, a fast-moving farce that includes a gay dwarf, a guy tripping on acid, the delivery of the wrong departed loved one, and a little too much unexpected viewing of a corpse. The actors do a superb job of conveying zaniness at an upper-crust country house funeral. The plot is based on human foibles and flaws, and there are no lessons to be learned or morals to be drawn. A son in the movie however does have an epiphany about his father and matures through the comic adversities.
How can things go wrong at a small funeral ceremony? What if a blackmailer shows up with photographs, what if a clod puts acid in a bottle meant for Valium, what if an old, handicapped man has an urgent need to evacuate, and what if the man assisting him ends up with more on his hands than he bargained for, what if a nude man threatens suicide from a roof, and what if noises are thought to emanate from a coffin--twice?
It's hard to pull off farce, but if the director has a good plot, sharp characterization, and actor-pros, it's a treat to watch. A hilarious flick with twists and turns and plenty of laughs.

Much better than the U.S. version, August 4, 2010
This review is from: DEATH AT A FUNERAL (Blu-ray)
Simply hilarious and the acting completely trumps that of the version recently released in the U.S. I don't know why they even bothered.

great movie, February 22, 2009

my wife and I saw this in the theater when she was going into labor, she laughed through the entire film. And like the butterfly effect, so did everyone else in the theater.
