This review is from: BLACK AND DECKER DIGITAL ADVANTAGE IRNA.OFF STM-SPRY-SURGE S.S PLATE - D2030 (Kitchen)
The Black & Decker D2030 was purchased as a replacement for a Rowenta Ultra Professional DW991 iron that failed after 3 years of use. The B&D D2030 is a high end iron with a lot of bells and whistles that are mostly useful. The most useful features of the iron are an automatic shutoff, stainless soleplate, and "burst of steam" capability. The iron also touts a digital interface that mostly provides information as to when the iron is ready to be used, or cleaned and provides a numerical fabric ironing temperature selection from 1 for delicate synthetics such as acetates to 7 for linens. The digital display is clear and easy to read.
As far as actual performance, the iron is one of the best I have used. even at the lowest settings it provides more than a useful amount of steam for removal of wrinkles. The iron has been used with excellent results on delicate wrinkle prone chambray, heavy cotton denim jeans, medium-heavy weight wool and mid weight cotton chinos. The iron has performed as well if not better than some irons that I have owned that cost twice as much.
Despite its great performance, there are some minor faults with the iron. First the water tank is a kind of translucent gray in color and it is difficult to see the water level in the tank. A small clear viewing port would have made it easier to tell when the iron needs a refill. Secondly the iron does not have built in anti-calc protection against hard water. That is something the Rowenta had that I though useful, but I don't think it made the Rowenta worth all the extra money. Lastly, when you unplug the iron, it resets the temperature settings. This is a minor inconvenience as it is real easy to reset the fabric temperature settings.
All in all the B&D D2030 us a fine iron. It is not inexpensive, but compared to high ticket models like Rowenta, it is a true bargain. Anyone who buys it will likely be satisfied with its performance.

the perfect iron, September 26, 2007
This review is from: BLACK AND DECKER DIGITAL ADVANTAGE IRNA.OFF STM-SPRY-SURGE S.S PLATE - D2030 (Kitchen)
I searched in Consumers report for the best steam iron, and this B&D digital steam iron has the best reviews. I was skeptic, because I allways used Rowenta which is an excellent iron; but I took the chance with this black an decker which is cheaper. Perfect ironing, bigger water tank, self cleaning, digital, a little bit heavier for better pressing. I am glad to change from Rowenta to Black and Decker (this specific model D2030)

I love this iron - don't know what I would do if it didn't turn itself!
