But that one song-- all eighteen minutes of it-- is a doozy. It has peaks and valleys, climaxes and resolutions and codas. It's a longform composition in punk, "The Grand Wazoo" for skaters. It's ambitious and political, and above all, very good.

Amazingly, even though NOFX seems have gone all prog-rock on us with the concept, the execution is still true to their style. It's a testament to the abilities of the group that eighteen continuous minutes of punk, with no sing-song choruses, doesn't bore the listener. On the contrary: it's one of their best recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, December 10, 2005
This review is from: The Decline (Audio CD)
This song is one of the best songs i have ever heard. An 18 minute long song with no chorus, and it doesnt drag on! It sounds impossible doesnt it? well it isnt. This song has everything. It has mostly punk but it slows down, has a part that is sorta funk sounding, and it has a hint of ska. they even throw in a trombone for a part in there. This is defenitely the best NOFX song ever wrote. Its almost the best punk song ever wrote too. You should defenitely buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best NOFX song ever!, December 6, 1999
By
This review is from: DECLINE EP (Audio CD)
This CD is not just for punk fans but everyone. It only has one 18 minute song but The Decline is by far the best NOFX song ever written. It has really deep, powerful lyrics. The first 5 or 6 minutes is typical NOFX style punk but from then on it changes in many great ways. There is this real cool part with a horn. All in all this CD is great I recommend this CD to anyone out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing to make punk rock Elite, November 29, 1999
This review is from: DECLINE EP (Audio CD)
By now I'm sure all you hardcore NOFX fans have this album, but for those of you that maybe aren't big fans or are just curious here we go!

The first thing you notice about this CD is the cd itself. A clear plastic cd with the recorded portion a yellow color. This is the first cd I've seen like this.

As for the music...Yes, it is only one song...and yes that one song is 18 minutes. But its 18 minutes of punk that only NOFX could bring to our ears and actually pull it off without getting boring during any part of the song. I'm not going to delve into lyrics or anything, but it does seem to be a deeper song than many of their previous. If you have liked some of their newer releases like "We Threw Gasoline on the Fire" or "The Plan", this EP is exactly what you would expect their music to evolve to. As for it only being an EP, I'm not dissapointed at all. They wanted to put an EP out there before they started working on the next full length (Which will be released in Febuary from what I know). True Hardcore NOFX fans know whats coming...and if this EP is any indication...the new CD might be their best ever....after all...these aren't 21 year old kids anymore.

Anyway...thats my 10 cents. Get this EP now!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Punk Wall, March 2, 2000
By
This review is from: DECLINE EP (Audio CD)
I work at a radio station here at my college, and in the playlist box was "The Decline" and it said it was 18 minutes long. I've never listened to NOFX before, I thought punk wasn't my thing. I just put it in so that I have enough time during my slot so I can go to the bathroom and have a smoke too. I put it in, listened to the first minute, then more, then more. Next thing I knew I listened to the whole thing. I was FLOORED. I never listened to NOFX before in my life, but this song blew me away. There's so much covered in this song. I immedately went to my local CD store and picked up a copy, and I pretty much listen to it every day. Without this album, I wouldn't be as much into punk as I am now. I've bought AFI, Lagwagon, HI Standard, and more JUST BECAUSE OF THIS ALBUM. It opened me up to a whole new world. I strongly believe that this album is much like a punk version of "The Wall". Even if you're not into punk, get this album. There's a whole new world of music out there, and this album was my door to it. It could be the same for you too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One song masterpiece, January 30, 2000
This review is from: DECLINE EP (Audio CD)
Few things can really sum up what a certain band has in terms of style and talent. Well, The Decline does just that for the NOFX crew. This EP is, in my opinion, the best song they've put out to date. All tweny or so minutes of it (I didn't pay attention to how long it was since I was bobbing my head into a coma at the time it was playing) is great listening from beginning to end. I popped it in my truck, and I completely loss myself in the guitar, horns, and drum sonic boom that they've completely perfected. It deserves all five stars from NOFX and non-NOFX fans alike. Man, if this ONE SONG is this GOOD, can you imagine their next album? The boys have really outdone themselves this time around...

5.0 out of 5 stars 18 minutes of Genius, March 20, 2000

NOFX never lets me down, one of the 3 or 4 bands that I eagerly await their next work. The Decline, although different in structure is probably the best NOFX to date, (and that's saying a lot)! Few other bands can combine the hardcore harmonies with thought inducing lyrics like Fat Mike and the boys. Buying it is a must, but even more important; listen to again and again, as it will sound better with each listen, and become more and more thought provoking and contemporary

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST EP I Have Ever HEARD!, February 13, 2000
This review is from: DECLINE EP (Audio CD)
I love Nofx. I started crying while listening to this cd it is so good. It is incredible. The trombone, the bells the backgroung vocals, all perfected by one of the oldest punk bands around.

nofx has always been amazing. but this ep is even better. they blend everything together in one track. as you listen to it you realize that they made this cd in like one take which is VERY impressive. i recommend this to anyone who is a long time nofx fan or a new school punk fan who wants to hear what good punk should sound like.
