4.0 out of 5 stars Great pictorial companion...
The previous reviewer is correct in one aspect. If you're looking for a well written description of the 1927 MS River flood, then Rising Tide is the book for you. However, where Rising Tide is extremely lacking in photographic illustrations of this tragic event, Deep'n As It Comes makes up 10 fold! I find this book to be an excellent photographic companion to Rising...

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not nearly as good as Rising Tide (same subject).
The author, an excellent historian (check out his other books) couldn't seem to make up his mind whether this was to be a coffee table book filled with pictures (which are first rate) or a serious history of an epic, if largely unremembered, event that had significant impact on our society. As a result, this book doesn't quite make it as either. Still, it is...

This review is from: DEEP'N AS IT COME: THE 1927 MISSISSIPPI RIVER FLOOD (Paperback)
Still, it is interesting and provocative. It just but pales in comparison to Rising Tide, a magnificent work.

This review is from: DEEP'N AS IT COME: THE 1927 MISSISSIPPI RIVER FLOOD (Paperback)
I picked this up as an introduction to the Flood of 1927 and was somewhat disappointed because it wasn't really a backgrounder. It's really a look at the flood from the point of view of refugees, aid workers, and others affected by the flood. The book hosted many pictures and stories, and I ended up being more than satisfied. I recommend this book, but I'm picking up "Rising Tide" next.
