The trick in using the puller,
This review is from: DEG Magnum Mouthpiece Puller
I was just at the music store trying to use the Magnum puller. It's not obvious how it works.
What's not obvious is where the tongs at the bottom of the puller go. They don't go around the trumpet's lead pipe itself, but around the stem of the mouthpiece, where trumpet and mouthpiece meet - sitting atop the lead pipe's edge (only the very edge of the tongs and the very edge of the trumpet lead pipe are touching.) The tongs are "gripping" the stem of the mouthpiece, not the lead pipe. As you turn the the wing-nut clockwise to tighten it, the tongs push down on the edges of the lead pipe and force the mouthpiece up. The mouthpiece will pop up, and at this point, the tongs WILL be gripping the mouthpiece which is now separated from the rest of the trumpet.

It works just as advertised. Easy to use and does what it is supposed to do without wrecking your horn.
