5.0 out of 5 stars Get a grip
This low cost vise will hold whatever you need to drill a hole in on your drill press. The quick release lets you change pieces fast for repetitive drilling. Unfortunatly, it does not fit the Delta DP300 bench drill press .... It is much too large and the mounting holes do not line up...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too large for 990 bench drill press
Although it's advertised to fit the Delta 990 press, it does not. The bolt holes in the vise simply will not line up square w/ the slots in the drill press table. I can c-clamp it to the table of the press and it works fine, but no one wants to have to make such basic compromises with a brand new tool. I'm going to return it and look for the 4" vise instead...

The two stars reflects my frustration with the false advertising, not the quality of the product. I agree with the prior reviewers regarding the quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to a Delta Drill Press, March 25, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DELTA 20-619 6-Inch Drill Press Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Quick Release Vise is a great addition to any delta drill press. It makes drilling very easy and accurate, since you aren't trying to use clamps or your hands to hold onto wood or metal. This vise does not come with bolts to attach it to your drill press, you need to buy those from your local hardware store. I'd also suggest making wood blocks to put on the walls of the vise, so you don't mess up what you want to drill. Have a rag on hand to wipe the non-rust oil off when you open the vise shipping box. Overall it is a good addition to any drill press.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Vise for a Free-Standing Drill Press, January 15, 2009

This device is a great addition to my shop! It goes well with my free-standing 16-1/2" drill press; it may be too big for most bench top drill presses. Below is information that will let you judge if this vise will work for you.

It is 9-3/4" long x 8-7/8" wide. The bottom of the jaws sits 1-5/8" above the drill press table. The jaws themselves are 1-1/2" high x 5-7/8" wide. You probably will want a wood block on the jaws. To accommodate this there are two ¼" holes spaced 3-5/8" apart.

Regarding the quick release screw, a 30 degree five tooth nut segment engages the screw. It has a pivot arranged such that when you tighten it, the threads on the nut bite into the screw. You can rotate the nut away from the screw and slide the jaw forward or back. If the jaw is away from the work, you can also push on the screw with the nut down and the jaw will ratchet forward with ease.

The unit comes well packaged. Amazon had the box the vise came in packed in another box. The vise was in a plastic bag inside the box. The bare metal on the vise is protected with an oil coating which needs to be removed before the unit is used.

This thing is big...and heavy. Works great, but then all it does is hold something down while you drill on it. The great feature is the quick release. No more cranking it out to the size you need. You just lift up on the release and slide it wherever you need. Then let go of the release, fine tune and drill, cut, carve, hammer, whatever. It won't fit on a drill press table unless you have a pretty big one. Mine is a 12 inch press and the vise is too big. But, I made a plywood table for it and this vise sits on it perfectly. Much safer than clamps or thumbs. It's the first Delta product I've bought that doesn't use cheap plastic parts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Delta tool alert!!, September 10, 2005
This review is from: DELTA 20-619 6-Inch Drill Press Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
This 6" vise by Delta is well made (now for the "but"), but as I'm finding out with Delta products, you better do your homework and make sure it fits your drill press. It doesn't fit the DP300 bench drill press. The slots don't match the table slots. If Delta just put the slot spacing dimension in their literature it would have helped. I'm going to use the slots on one side only and hold it with 2 bolts or clamp it to the the table with clamps. It also has no grooves for dowels (thanks Delta!). If it had the dowel groove and fit my DP300 table I would have given it 5 stars.

Seeing that this is a 6 inch vise for under thirty dollars I though there was a quality issue for it being so cheap. Not so. The quick release feature is very handy. And it's so big it doubles as a bench vise when I need it. If your drill press is big enough, get this vise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Delta lies!, December 25, 2010

Delta LIES!!!! I called them specifically to ensure that this vise would fit the table for my DELTA model 11-990 drill press. It does NOT! The holes aren't even close! I was told with ABSOLUTE certainty that this was the correct vise for my model. LIARS! It even names my model on the side of the box! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! What happened to this company? they used to be THE name to buy and now they are just the same cheap chinese junk as all the rest. In retrospect I should have just saved myself the aggravation and $20 and bought the universal vise at Lowes. I mean, after all, its cheap chinese crap just like this one and it fits. The idiots that run this company should realize that there are people just like me out there that would pay double or even triple the price to get a well made, proper fitting piece of equipment made in the USA. At least give us the option!!!!
How Pathetic. If I could give less than a star I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me!, December 9, 2008
By
This review is from: DELTA 20-619 6-Inch Drill Press Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
Let me start off by saying that when I bought this product, I knew it would not fit my 12" drill press. I like a challenge so I got it and found if I drilled and tapped the base it becomes easily adjustable and works just fine. Drilling and tapping the base makes adjustments of the vice easy and say I like this setup better than one that would have just bolted on. Tapping the holes means I dont have a bolt and nut to contend with, just two bolts (that is all I really needed) and 20 seconds to get everything where I need it and one hand tightening is great. I can't complain for the price and this will probably bolt right onto a taller floor standing model base.

4.0 out of 5 stars delta vise, November 11, 2009

This review is from: DELTA 20-619 6-Inch Drill Press Vise (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this for the DELTA 17-959L 17-Inch Laser Crosshair Drill Press knowing it wasn't intended to work with it but I assumed that with some modifications it would. I cut/ground out the slot divider on the vise base so there is one long slot per side and then added some 1/2" bolts and large wingnuts to clamp it to the drill press table. With these modifications it works fine with the listed press.
