5.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw
I've had one now for 18 months and built 2 sheds with it. The saw is well built and accurate, but the dust colloection stinks (doesn't collect enough of the sawdust) and my standard blade was a piece of junk steel blade. However it sounds like carbide is now standard. I love the bed extensions, hold down clamp, and repetitive cut guide that come with it - they all work...

3.0 out of 5 stars very smooth, nice power, mucho iron
A friend of mine has this saw and I've used it to cut trim for his house. The "see through guard" hasn't been quite see through enough. I prefer the grate of the DeWalt CM saw guard. The position of the handle makes left-handed cuts a little difficult, even more so the placement of the safety button on the left side of the handle. I read comments made...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw, November 17, 1999

I've had one now for 18 months and built 2 sheds with it. The saw is well built and accurate, but the dust colloection stinks (doesn't collect enough of the sawdust) and my standard blade was a piece of junk steel blade. However it sounds like carbide is now standard. I love the bed extensions, hold down clamp, and repetitive cut guide that come with it - they all work well. Would recommend to anyone except someone needing to carry it around to many worksites - it's a heavy beast because of the cast iron bed. Look at the aluminum models if you want light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw - Bad Back, December 2, 1999

I have had the Delta 36-220 Compound Mitre saw for a little over a year. I 100% agree with Doug B's review. It is a tough, accurate and vibration free saw, equally at home with construction as well as finish work (a lot depends on the blade). The vertical D-handle is a bit awkward for left handed use but the cast iron base does an excellant job of damping vibrations. It is also HEAVY....at over 50lbs, it barely qualifies as portable (unless you can get one with a fork lift). All in all, I would highly recommend it as a stationary shop saw but would look at Makita for a lighter, more portable, mitre saw. Cheers, John

This saw is a great value. It cuts smooth (especially with a new carbide blade) and cuts anything. Miter works well, compound adjustment ok. Dust collection (even attached to vac) is poor. The only real problem with this product is it is very very heavy. For jobsite use I'd buy much lighter unit.

I read comments made previous to mine, and it is quite heavy. There have been some problems with the saw sticking at the beginning of its downward travel; kind of a nuisance. This might be fixed easily, but it's also less than 8 months old. Besides these complaints, the saw runs very smooth and cuts very well. More than adequate power.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid tool with a few quirks, September 8, 2000
This review is from: DELTA 36-220 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife just bought this saw for me, and it is definitely a beefy heavy-duty saw. It seems to do a very nice job of cutting miters. The table insert was cracked when I got it, but Delta shipped out a replacement overnight to me without any hassles. I did have to do a bit of trial and error adjusting to get the miter saw perfectly aligned, and it doesn't have a nice system for micro-adjusting the alignment--it's just trial and error. When you do get it aligned, though, it seems to stay aligned and cut miters well. Also, the extension arms that come with it are completely weenie-like--very unDelta.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, reliable performer, March 13, 2000
This review is from: DELTA 36-220 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have owned this saw for over two years, and I love it! Although I wouldn't want to carry it around a lot due to its weight, I have great success using it as a stationary tool in my shop. It has plenty of power, but the dust collection doesn't work as good as it could. Also, the steel blade which came with it was no good, but outfitted with a good blade, I'm not sure this saw's performance can be beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great saw with a carbide blade but the arm drags, January 28, 2000

Hi, I use my saw at home either remodelling or building furnature for my business. It's a great saw for stationary use in every way that I can think of, except for one little problem. If anyone has an answer to this problem I would appreciate the advice and help. When I pull the saw into the wood, actually when I initially pull on the arm of saw, it is dragging on the slide bar somehow. I don't know if this normal or not, but this is my only complaint. Overall my favorite tool.

Tom

5.0 out of 5 stars A note on the sticky arm, May 4, 2000

I have had my saw for a while now and i am familar with the sticking problem. I think you will find that it is the blade gard that is hanging up and causing the sticky feeling. Other than that it as a great saw smooth and lots of power. And "HEAVY DUTY" you won't have to worry about this one getting away!

4.0 out of 5 stars I've punished my saw severely but it's still holding up., April 20, 2001

This review is from: DELTA 36-220 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been using my Delta 36-220 to cut 3/4 steel rod, 3/4 x 3/4 steel stock and up to 3/4 x 3" steel plates. I installed a metal cutting blade and let the sparks fly. I've melted the plastic insert, melted holes in the dust bag, and popped 20 amp breakers when an "old" blade gets jammed in the stock. I've made hundreds of cuts and the saw just keeps on working. When I switch back to a wood cutting blade, it cuts just as smooth as when the saw was new.

I returned the first unit I bought because the round table rocked in the housing, but the replacment saw was nice and tight and keeps on doing everything I've asked of it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Solid, but did not last, February 28, 2001

This saw is really not portable (which was fine), cut and power was great. The supplied accessories were also nice. I had purchased mine to use on a new addition, the motor went just out of warranty (due to surgery I hadn't used it for more than a year during the warranty period). Delta was unresponsive to emails, letters, and appathetic on phone calls. Repair cost exceeded that of a replacement, and I couldn't replace it with the same (didn't feel it would last). Very much supprised me how sort the life was on it, the 8 1/4 Delta I have has been going for more than 12 years (and actually had to pick up the slack for this one).
