Good quality High Speed Steel (HSS) tools. The tools in this set hold an edge far longer than the carbon steel set (46-730) and have a much better overall finish to them. Good to start off with because they will give you encouraging results without breaking your wallet. (Currently cheaper than the 46-730 set of 8)

This set of chisels (my first set) was purchased along with my first midi-lathe. The Delta chisels work very well, but I don't have another reference point to compare. The skew and bowl chisels turned out long running ribbons against acrylic pen blanks and cut through hardwoods without hesitation - right out of the box. Other reviews posted state that most wood turning chisel sets are not sharpened to their full potential from the factory. The chisels are currently undergoing their first sharpening, so my anticipation for an ever sharper set of tools is high. Delta makes quality products and these chisels fit their profile.
