I picked up my unit before I read the negative reviews in the pages here. All I can say is, good thing I did not read them, because I may of not purchased my unit. I picked up my unit and then read the reviews. As soon as I did that I rushed to the workshop to check out the unit. I was not planning to hook it up right now since I did not have a wood project that I was in the middle of, but after reading the two negative reviews I opened the box at once and fired up the unit. All I can say is this thing is GREAT, I have a JDS unit that is a few years old. I liked it SO MUCH that I went out and purchased this Delta unit. The lowest setting on this Delta moves more air then my old JDS unit. I used to hate doing a lot of wood working in the winter because of all the dust in the air I create. I had to leave my old unit run for days after I finished using the table saw. Not anymore, It clears the are in about 15 minutes after cutting MDF. I have a dust collector on the saw but dust still passes the 30 micron filter bag. I have finished one project in the past 2 weeks and have started 2 more. This unit has made woodworking fun again.

Some of the cool things that I have found with the unit are the following
It has an electrostatic filter that I can clean and not have to replace.
The unit has an auto shutoff from 1/2 hour to 7 1/2 hours in 1/2 increments, The jet I almost bought only does 3 setting 2,4,8 hours.
The fan on low is quieter then my other unit and it moves more air.
It has a dirty air filter indicator to tell me when the filters need to be cleaned.

The only negative thing that I can see in the unit is the dirty filter indicator does not work when the unit is standing on its side. The indicator is designed more to be laying flat or celling mount. But this will not be an issue for long, I plan to pull the JDS down and install the Delta in it's place as soon as I finish the next project.

I guess I will be e-baying my old JDS unit

With all the negative reviews for the shipping and damage I was nervous ordering this tool. I have a Jet unit at work and it has performed well for three years but left something to be desired in fit and finish. I ordered my Delta unit on Monday afternoon, as I was leaving for work on Thursday morning I saw a large box in my breezway, it had only taken two days. Despite some blemishes to the box the unit unpacked without a scratch. The refinement of finish compared to the Jet is as night to day. It is better finished, has more features, is easier to use and is sooo much quieter than the Jet that they don't even bear comparison. For approximately the same money I think you'd be foolish to choose any other unit or any other source.

Unlike others, I received mine today in fine shape. The shipping box was in good condition and the unit was in excellent working order.

I share the other reviewer's opinion that the eye hooks should have been on center for standard construction ie; 24"

My only whine is it a bit noisy on high volume and that is a weak complaint at that!

Overall I'm quite satisfied.

I bought two Delta 50-875 air purifiers and have been very pleased with both units. They arrived without damage (in contrast to comments made in other reviews posted here) and they both work great. I did a lot of research on Delta v. Jet or JDS before buying the Delta units. I find the Delta to be quiet and also clears the air in both my basement application and in a separate workshop installation. I do a lot of work with MDF. The electro-static filter allows me to clean the pre-filter (instead of replacing it as on some other brands). All in, I'm very happy with this Delta product.

The design and features of this air cleaner are the reason that I ordered this unit for my shop. The quality control needs some help though. The first unit I received had a broken circuit breaker, even though the packaging was not damaged. I sent this unit back for a replacement, which I received in just a few days. The second unit was bad also. The squirrel cage fan was bent so badly (about 1/2" to 3/4" lateral runout)the unit jumped up and down on the bench the first time I turned it on! I'm sending this one back also. I called the Amazon.com help line and talked to a person that I could barely understand and was told they wouldn't send me another replacement. I went to the website and found the "Return Policy". It doesn't say anything about a limit on returns, so I requested another unit. Who knows, maybe the third time is a charm.

The air purifier has worked well for me -- no regrets on the purchase. From the beginning, the fan noise was a little more than I had hoped, and here's the fix:

I had a sheet metal shop build a short section of sound-insulated rectangular ductwork (just a few feet) and screwed it to the box. The sound from the unit was drastically reduced, with no apparent performance issues.

After reading all the reviews that complained about damage in shipping, I had hoped Delta would fix the problem, NO LUCK! Mine came today with dents in the front panel and rear opening. I'm having a difficult time taking out the electrostatic filter without bending it out of shape.

Delta came close with this one. The fit and finish are great there are only two problems that I can see with this unit. The mounting holes are 18" or 22" depending on which direction you are facing the machine. As most of you know that does not line up with any typical ceiling framing. A little more thought there would have sure saved a lot of work on the part of the end user. The other thing is the remote is probably the cheapest one I have ever seen. I am not sure if it will survive a fall on to the concrete garage floor from the table. Otherwise it operates without vibration and seems to do an excellent job of cleaning the air. Those are the main reasons to buy this one. Lack of convenience is the only reason this unit gets a 4 from me.

First off let me join the crowed by saying my unit arrived in a nice undamaged box... yet it was damaged within.. The case was bent and dented in several places and the filter indicator window was broken.. Not a shipping fault by UPS but more or less a packaging shortcoming by Delta... There were only 2 pieced or styrofoam in the unit to be removed. They are placed between the motor and housing to prevent the motor from bouncing around during shipping but, they don't work.. Enough on the fault... The machine runs great and does as advertised. Really cleans the air fast.. I am pleased with the product overall and would buy again... Works far better then the JET air cleaner I used to have..

Based on all the poor reviews on shipping damage, I was skeptical to buy. I based my purchase on the fact that all buyers liked it when they got it working. I am glad I did. The unit was well packed and received in excellent shape even with damage to the box. I have had it in my shop for a few weeks now, and there is a noticeable difference in the reduced dust level. I use it at low speed most of the time. It does tend to be noisy at high, but to be expected when moving that much air. Bottom line it is a great product and works well.
