5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for the price.
I already owned a sidekick (sliding compound miter saw). I purchased this for more portable use and lighter weight. Look around for the Delta package that includes a free extra blade, extension cord, tool holder, tape measure, and builder's sqaure. If you find that, you've got quite a deal. Great for small trim work. I've used it for quarter rounds, base, etc. Setting the...

I own Dewalt, Bosch, Hitachi, and now unfortunately a Delta - so I know a good miter saw and how they should work. This thing has been a headache from the start. There is no arbor lock for blade changes, it constantly needs adjusting if you really want a true 45 or 90 cut. Good thing I bought this as a light duty saw for shoe moulding and little stuff like that instead of...

Setting the angles for compound cuts by hand does require some care. But single angle cuts are a "snap" with the positive locks at 45, 90, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Saw, December 16, 2002

I didn't buy this saw through Amazon.com, but it's good enough that I figured I would write about it anyway! This saw blazes through a 4x4 with absolutly no problem! I've cut trim, lumber and crown molding with ease. The instruction manual even has a whole section dedicated on how to cut crown molding.
I would say that the only problem is that the dust bag doesn't do that good of job on collecting all the dust. But I guess it's better then nothing!

I own Dewalt, Bosch, Hitachi, and now unfortunately a Delta - so I know a good miter saw and how they should work. This thing has been a headache from the start. There is no arbor lock for blade changes, it constantly needs adjusting if you really want a true 45 or 90 cut. Good thing I bought this as a light duty saw for shoe moulding and little stuff like that instead of dragging out one of my 'real' miter saws. I don't know what the deal is, I've tried different blades and there isn't much run-out but the cut quality is much less than the other saws with the same blade. It also runs after the drigger is depressed for a second or two before it kicks off, and the base get's energized from time to time and can give you a small tingling shock when you touch any of the bare metal on it. If you only have one had to carry it with you have to put it down on the miter adjustment handle and picking it up with one hand puts pressure on the same spot. The handle is on the bottom of the back instead of on top like the dewalt, the fence is way to small, the table doesn't slide smoothly at all and the bevel gauge is useless for setting a precise angle without at least a hand bevel gauge to check it. There is a reason the other 10" saw cost more, you get much better quality and three times better function. I could care less if I drop this think now or it gets rained on because I'd love a reason to get another 10" Dewalt and put this were it belongs, a landfill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beats a Hand Saw, February 8, 2005
This review is from: DELTA MS250 Shopmaster 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is the saw for do-it-yourself jobs. It was perfectly sqaure and aligned right out of the box, much to my surprise. It has a nice portable size and weight which makes it all the more useful. I also like the feel of the handle and power button design. It does not really feel that uncomfortable.

Negatively, the bevel lock seems a little loose when adjusting. It feels like the whole upper saw piece could fall off if unscrewed too far. With it being so loose I wonder how long it will take for the saw to go out of alignment? Also as others have noted, the bevel indicator is difficult to read.

I am in the process of trimming out a renovated house and this saw has proven up to the task. It is certainly at the right price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only for light work, June 20, 2006
This review is from: DELTA MS250 Shopmaster 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
This saw is great for light work, etc. Don't buy it if u plan to use it for heavy projects or for projects that require extreme accuracy. The bevel part of the saw is hard to read, and even harder to adjust. Don't use this saw for crown molding. Even though it has positive stops for crown molding, they are not as accurate as they should be. Oh, and make sure u have all the pieces if you buy it. Mine came without the little knob for adjusting angled cuts. Also, take to note this saw does not come with any clamps for securing yer work piece. This is unsafe (i suggest getting one or two, before using the saw. They are available at Sears for about 20 dollars)

Other than mentioned above, this saw gets that job done when used properly. It also is a good saw for beginers

4.0 out of 5 stars Value for the Home Handyman, October 19, 2003

Although not a tool for the professional, this saw is a great value. Some tweaking is needed out of the box, but other than that it will handle almost anything the average homeowner can throw at it. I also bring this one to jobsites if only a few cuts are needed simply because it is so light to carry around. If precision angles and long lasting durability is what you're looking for you should be spending more money anyways.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for value!, March 20, 2004
This review is from: DELTA MS250 Shopmaster 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is an excellent miter saw for the money! It comes with instructions on how to adjust it because it is not a precision saw out of the box. Actually mine needed no adjustments (Lucky?).

My first cut was thru a 4X4 treated landscape timber and it was very true to square, cut very fast and was suprisingly accurate.

I've not done any trim work yet but everything is tight and measures very accurate.

For the money, you can't go wrong (BTW, I bought mine at Lowes).

I'm just a typical homeowner and very pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars good saw for light jobs., July 27, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DELTA MS250 Shopmaster 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this saw for light, occasional use about 20 months ago.
As aspected, I used it little and it served me well. However at about 16 months the cast iron support that limits the saws depth of cut broke. I was surprised that it had failed with such light use.
The nearest factory service was 70 miles away. It took it to them and left it for repair. I called three times to check on it and found the part was backordered at Delta with no ETA. Finally after 3 months it arrived and was repaired.

The saw works well now but I have had some trouble with alignment
but was able to easily correct it. I am sure at this price it is considered a throwaway saw by Delta but I do appreciate the two year warranty even if they are slow as hell supplying parts.

ASSEMBLY: Assembly was straightforwoard and took less than 30 minutes.

SETUP: Blade alignment was acceptable out of the box. Miter stops were accurate but the bevel indicator was off and difficult to adjust.

PROs and CONs: This saw has produced nice clean accurate cuts. However, the bevel indictor is difficult to read accurately.

I have used this little miter saw for the better part of a year and a half. It's probably the power tool I use most often. It has never failed to deliver exactly what I expect of it.

I agree with other reviewers that the compund adjustment could be better. However, I have nothing but praise for this saw.

No other compund in this price range (under $100) is as reliable nor accurate. Sure, there will come a time when I will upgrade, but if you need an excellent quality saw for starters, there is simply no better buy for the money than this little champ. Thanks Delta..!
