Most of you have probably seen toy cellphones and laptops, designed to give tots the feeling that they have something "just like Daddy's."

This product is the toy camera for such children.

This Chinese-made toy camera is routinely seen on eBay, Craig's List, flea markets and other places, always under names that sound to those who don't know cameras to be like a major brand - "Olympia" to sound like Olympus, "Cannon" to sound like Canon, etc. It looks like an SLR in a photograph, but it's just a design illusion. It has a small, optically useless viewing device - it cannot be called a "viewfinder" because it really doesn't help you find the view.

Out of curiosity, for a price well below $62 ($8 at a flea market) I purchased one as a challenge, to see what kind of photos it would make. Answer: Awful. Underexposed, blurry, streaked and fogged by light leaks. Frame-spacing changes as the roll is advanced.

I've been told you can buy these for around $2 each in quantities of 25 on Broadway and the low 20s in NYC. There's a street vendor I recall selling these near Lexington Ave. in the 50s, but I don't recall what he was charging.

Take a hammer to it and you will see it contains a block of metal designed to give it weight. One must wonder if this metal contains any lead, for it does appear pretty heavy for its dimensions.

I'm astonished to see this on Amazon.

Wow, what a misleading picture of a product. In the ad the camera looks great, like it would be a fantastic buy. When I received the camera, the first thing I noticed was that it is made entirely out of plastic. The picture looks much better than the product. I was very disappointed as I was getting it to trade my daughter for a older Canon model. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I do not have the pictures back yet to see what kind of quality the camera makes.

I wish I could have rated this "not worthy of a single star". Amazon is a great company. I am shocked that they would allow this crap on their site. This is major FALSE advertising. "Advanced Camera to Meet your Professional Requirements" ... Are they KIDDING? This is actually worse that a childs camera that you could buy at Toys'r'Us. At lease a childs camera is listed for $30 and you pay $30 and you know what you are getting. Also, the fact that they used the name Olympia is like the street vendors in NYC that sell purses that say PRADO ( with an O). This company is peddling garbage to people who don't know better. Such a shame. Amazon needs to give these guys the boot.
