5.0 out of 5 stars A Framer's delight
This is a sturdy, well-made gun that fires 3 1/4 and 2 1/2 inch
clipped heads with equal tenacity. The bump-trigger is very light and I can easily rat-a-tat if I'm not quick off of the "bump". I might switch to a single selective trigger which comes packaged with the tool. Wish I had a carry-box or fabric bag that came with it. I'm ready to tackle several decks...

3.0 out of 5 stars Only does half the job it is meant to do
When I purchased this gun it seemed to be a winner.Light, powerful , great features. It wasn`t untill I loaded the gun with a new box of 8`s to bang out a sheathing job. This gun will not shoot any brand of 8`s strip nails , tried them all.It seems like the spring holding the strip nails has too much force and buches them together , jamming the gun after three shots.It...

4.0 out of 5 stars decent gun, December 27, 2004
This review is from: DEWALT D51823 Clipped Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer with Magnesium Housing (Tools & Home Improvement)
When I got this gun I was really pleased. It's light and fairly powerful. But after framing about 20 houses in the last year or so it just couldn't hold up. The power dropped dramatically and then the nose and trigger gave up.It probably would do great under a less stressful workload.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good nailer, February 28, 2004

I read many reviews before buying a new framer and it was between this one and the paslode. My company builds lots of decks and new homes, so this gun gets a workout. It has worked alongside a couple of paslodes now for about 6 months. It is excellently balance and powered. My only complaint is that after working through the winter in severe cold, it needed a full overhaul (under warranty thankfully) for the seals and O-rings while the paslodes kept right at it. Overall, a great gun, just hope it does not need seals every six months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, problem-free framing nailer., November 9, 2005
This review is from: DEWALT D51823 Clipped Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer with Magnesium Housing (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had this nailer for several months now, and it has done nothing but perform flawlessly. Whether framing or sheathing, it has never misfired once. It has never jammed. The tool free depth adjustment works great. The rafter hook is something I could not live without. The quick release jam clearing feature is also great. (Although I haven't had to use it for clearing jams). This is simply a phenomenal nailer. The only way I would be happier is if DeWalt would include a kit box with this gun.

First off, I own the older model of this DeWalt nailer. I bought it about four years ago when they were offering the $50 rebate. I am a residential remodeler and use this tool a fair amount, but not as much as someone who just does framing. This nailer has some features that I really like. It has tool free depth adjustment, a rafter hook (althought I would feel more confident if it was metal rather than plastic), and I like that the magazine can be removed easily to clear jams. This feature has come in handy on a few occasions. The tool is lightweight and is fairly short from the nose to the rear, which helps when trying to negotiate tighter spaces. The power is okay but not knock your socks off. It will sink a nail flush into an LVL beam, but not much deeper. So far it has been fairly durable. There are a few complaints I have about it. For some reason it tends to misfire quite a bit. It doesn't jam very often, it just doesn't fire a nail on about 5% of the shots. Also, when I am shooting 2 1/4" nails for sheething, the paper strips tend to get "bunched up" and can cause occasional jams. This can get frustrating because when it comes to sheething you're trying to shoot as many nails as possible in a short amount of time. I don't know if DeWalt has fixed any of these problems with this new model. I have looked at it in the store but haven't tried it out yet. It looks like they have made some decent upgrades though.

2.0 out of 5 stars no hard case - disappointed, July 26, 2008

just got my and disappointed as soon as I opened the shipping box. there is no hard case to for carrying it around. the dewalt finish and brad nailers came with the hard cases. I would NOT buy this frame nailer had I read it thoroughly and recognize it doesn't come with the hard case. Didn't ship with 1 oz oil as stated

5.0 out of 5 stars nice nailer, September 9, 2002

This review is from: DEWALT D51823 Clipped Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer with Magnesium Housing (Tools & Home Improvement)
A case would have been nice. Some dewalt things come with a case and some don't, I guess. A air inlet connection would have been nice as well. I had to hunt down a connection in my compressor junk.... glad I had one. I don't have any framing nailers to compare this to so I'm not quallified to rate this item against the competition. The price was nice with the 50 dollar rebate. The air inlet area seems to be machined off center by design (perhaps to keep the airhose from being hit duing recoil), but this caught my eye right away as a flaw
because it just looks crooked(hell, let's face it, it is crooked). I love new tools, so I am overall glad to have purchased this nailer and look forward to nailing!!
