5.0 out of 5 stars a home craftsman
I do various home repairs on my own home and on my rental properties. I needed a good quality air compressor for my nail guns and I purchased the Dewalt D55151. A framer friend of mine recommended the oil fil type as apposed to the oil-free version. I have had the compressor for about 2 months and so far it has performed better than I ever expected! It's great! The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't match up to a Makita MAC2400
I've had this DeWalt compressor for three years and have cussed it the last two years. It performs horribly when it's cold, takes a long time to fill with air and is fairly loud. I really didn't realize how much I hated it until I finally had enough and purchased a Makita MAC2400. It is twice the compressor, performs great when it's cold and is half as loud as the...

It's great! The only drawback is that it does not come with a female hose connector, so I purchased and installed a manifold to accept 2 female connectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars User friendly compressor, October 5, 2005
This review is from: DEWALT D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2-HP 4-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is probably the best small compressor I have owned. It is very user friendly, relatively quiet and it comes up to full pressure rapidly. It also has the added durability feature of an oil reservoir to keep the piston well lubed.Previous small compressors I have owned were oiless types and were prone to freeze up under prolonged use.Not so with this model.

The Makita is a little heavier, but for only $20 more you get a much better compressor.

I do various home repairs on my own home and I needed a good quality air compressor for my nail guns. A friend of mine recommended the oil fill type as apposed to the oil-free version because of the life expectancy of oil-free. I have had the compressor for about 6 months and it has performed very well. It's a little louder than I expected, but not that bad. I'm very pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Packaging major problem, February 10, 2006
This review is from: DEWALT D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2-HP 4-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm sure the compressor will prove to be a great reliable workhorse, fired it up and it's not too loud, held the pressure. My problem has been receiving 3 damaged compressors. The plastic guard around the motor is always cracked and the mounting bolts have been jarred loose leading me to think that if bump that broke the plastic guard was big enough to jar the bolts what else is damaged? Dewalt, whats the problem with using a better packing method? Other companies seem to have it down, especially Bosch. Extra thick cardboard and a few pieces of styrofoam please!

As a trim subcontractor we use compressors every day and we have to have dependable equipment. I have had several brands of oil bath compressors. All have given years of daily service with minimal breakdowns. These Dewalt models have everything you need to power 2-3 finish guns at a time. With routine checking oil and air intake filter your set for work. I try to pull the oil pan off and clean the crankcase out once a year and refill with synthetic oil. By taking the pan off you can wipe out the aluminum dust that settles in the oil. It will not drain out with the oil if you just pull the plug. This is a heavy duty unit that will give you years of service! I do not recomend any oil free models they are very noisy and breakdown more often. You may save a few bucks with oil free models and if you get one buy some ear plugs and keep your savings for the replacement model when it dies?

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent compressor, August 5, 2006
This review is from: DEWALT D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2-HP 4-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I ordered this one from Amazon, got it 5 days later. The box was not damaged. I looked inside, everything appeared to be OK, and since I did not need it right away (bought it on sale), I put it aside. Two months later, I open the box, take it out, and realize that the plastic cover is broken into many, many pieces! I was very disappointed! There was no visible damage anywhere on the compressor or the box it came in. So I opened the manual, and called 1-800 number for Dewalt. What happened next was almost unbelievable. The guy said he is going to mail me the new cover right away, express shipping (I told him I need to use it in 3 days), I could not be without compressor. I hung up. 15 minutes later the same guy from Dewalt calls me back, saying it would be better if he just shipped me a brand new compressor, express mail of course, as long as I agree to ship my unit back, free of charge. Now that's what I call customer service!
I got the new unit, hooked it up, used it (and continue to use it) extensively (it's my only compressor), and it has never let me down. It does what it's supposed to do. It may be a little loud, but I don't know which compressor is quiet. It has rubber feet, a big plus. Dials are easy to use, drain plug as well, and it does not leak air. It's just the right combination of weight/performance for use around my house (I am not a contractor). I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it, though please check the box as soon as you get it for damage. That's why I gave it 4 stars only.

5.0 out of 5 stars DeWalt D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2 Horsepower 4-Gallon Compressor, January 11, 2007
This review is from: DEWALT D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2-HP 4-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I paid $220 including shipping for this compressor. I don't believe you could by anything better for the price I paid. Like some of the other customers that bought this product the plastic guard over the motor was also damaged in shipment. A call to Dewalt & I had a new replacement guard within a few days. Great service! I'm very satisified with my purchase.

This review is from: DEWALT D55151 14 Amp 2-1/2-HP 4-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Works like a champ. Runs 2-3 nail guns all day long without a problem. If you're looking for a great little compressor to take to jobs this is it.
