4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect tool to do trim

1.0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment.
I have owned a DC608 for over a year. It did not work at all when I first got it. It would jam after every nail. I had it repaired and now it jams every third nail. It also mars the work when it jams and its hard to tell whether or not a nail was placed. Its better with shorter nails. All in all its a big disappointment. Its the only DeWalt tool i have to say that about...

After many frustrating iterations with the Black and Decker 18V cordless nailer, I got a credit and purchased this unit. First of all, this unit is very different mechanically from the BD model. Nails are always ready to fire without any delay. It is more powerful and allows you to precisely set nail depth. Seems like there is better quality too. The tool is made in Mexico.

You can even 'bump' fire nails. This gun will shoot hundreds of nails on a charge. When you depress the tip you hear it rev up, and subsequently pushing the trigger will fire a nail. You can also reverse this process by holding the trigger and bump firing with the tip.

This is a brad nailer, but the 2inch brads were fine for medium sized crown moldings. Some may think you need 16ga for such work, but the nail holes are tiny and are invisible when you fill them! Also, you can use it where 16ga nails would split thinner wood!

With 3 2" brads in each stud, a long prybar was needed to pull off the moulding. The nail head is a perfect size to retain the wood, and will come out with the moulding. After months the moulding caulk lines are perfectly intact with no gaps, so they must be holding well!

The unit fires hundreds of nails on a charge, and of course if you have other dewalt batteries you can have perpetual power. Jamming is very infrequent. The headlights are also a great touch. It takes a universal 18V battery.

The issues I had with it were that brads had trouble going into some hardwoods (it would jam or curl up the nail). This is probably because of the nature of 18 ga nails and not a problem with the gun.

My unit also had a defective safety switch, meaning it will rev up even if the switch is engaged. It was not functioning according to the manual. It didn't fire, but it caused me to drop the gun. Not fun to learn about this when you are on a ladder :(.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this nailer!, May 26, 2010
This review is from: DEWALT DC608K 18-Volt 18-Gauge 2-Inch Brad Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great tool if you do much wood trim work or cabinet building. It saves tons of time and effort and is worth the cost! It's twice the price of the Black & Decker nailer, but it's twice the nail gun, too. If you have one small project and that's all you'll need a nailer for, then the B&D would probably be good enough for you. But if you plan on using it a lot, then opt for the DeWalt.. it has more power and much better quality and longevity. I've owned my DeWalt DC608 for well over a year and have used it extensively in that time, and I've had NO problems with it except for having jammed 3 or 4 times. It's really simple to remove the jammed nail, then blow out any dust or debris that may be causing the jam, and go on working. It's actually fun to use, and has enough safety features that an accidental firing would be difficult. No need for an air compressor and hose, which is a HUGE convenience for me, especially up on a ladder. All my tools are 18V DeWalt, so the interchangeable batteries are a huge plus. Every time I use this nailer I almost feel like kissing it (almost but not quite!!! lol)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great nailer, April 17, 2010

I just finished trimming out a library with this nailer and it is an incredible time saver. The tool is easily adjustable for countersinking nailheads and the 18 guage brads make small holes, but have tremendous holding power. This has transformed the entire nailing operation. For overhead nailing, one hand steadies the board and the other operates the nailer, making overhead trim work a one person operation. As far as I am concerned, this tool paid for itself on the first job.

I am a finish Carpenter of 15 years and I purchased the 16 gauge nailer 3 years ago, and have loved it ever since. It has worked with no troubles, with thousands of nails through it. I purchased the 18 gauge and have experienced the same Awesomeness. What I love more about this gun - 18 gauge it is so lightweight! I trimmed out 12 doors on 1 battery charge too, equivalent to 1000 nails! I love this because most the time I dont have electricity on the Job site, and these tools save me from running my Generator and compressor all day! THANK YOU DEWALT! Now just come out with an 18 volt MITER SAW!

5.0 out of 5 stars DeWalt 18GA cordless brad nailer, March 23, 2008
This review is from: DEWALT DC608K 18-Volt 18-Gauge 2-Inch Brad Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've been waiting for this cordless nailer for quite awhile. Ever since DeWalt came out with the 16GA cordless finish nailer. Both guns are indispensible. Now I don'thave to drag out the compresser ever again for a finish trim project. The new 18GA gun works like a charm.

I couldn't be more pleased with this nailer. I used it for a project over the weekend for the first time. It worked flawlessly. Not one single nail/brad misfired. There were no jams and no doubles. It's so frustrating when nail guns jam and that was simply not a problem with this tool.

Additionally the battery kept going strong the whole time. It's by no means lacking power either. I was shooting inch and inch and a half brads with ease. In fact I had to adjust the depth wheel because it was shooting them all the way through the hardwood paneling.

I have a confession, I can't drive a nail to save my life. Especially small nails, the kind that I find myself having to do about 80% of the time. This nailer works great, needs no compressed air, and runs a very long time on a battery charge. It drives brads into very awkward places and the best part is that it has an adjustment so that you can actually countersink the brad a wee bit, just the way you want it, so you can cover it with a little wood filler and stain, making the whole operation near invisible.

The nailer is VERY well made ( like most DeWalt things). When I bought mine, I ordered the 1", 1 1/2", and 2" brads with it. All work fine and seem to cover all bases. I did not order an extra 18v battery and I found that the one it comes with to be more than sufficient. There are many safety features built into it, but with any such tool, a little situational awareness is highly recommended.

Drives brads of all sizes flawlessly without the cost, noise and fuss of a compressor. A light, durable, easy-to-use tool that is ready for use anytime you need it - one brad or fifty. Could not recommend it more highly.

Nice nailer. Just what I needed to complete the trim in my home. Would have given 5 stars, but the weight is a little excessive. I did know that before I purchased the nailer but did not want to be burdened with the air compressor type and accessories that go along with it. The nailer works as described online and the battery lasts a long time. Great product. I would recommend this product.
