Kind of heavy, but powerful & heavy duty. I like it. I'm 65, so this might be the last drill I ever have to buy. (That's depressing.)

For years I've used an old B&D corded drill which handled most chores around the house. I had to have some repairs done at my mothers home this past fall in preparation for selling the house and hired a friend who used this model Dewalt. It was so good at handling little and big jobs that when I had to make some repairs around my house and my old standby couldn't produce the power I needed I called my friend and got the model number and ordered one for myself. It was worth every penny with the first job I used it on, drilling a hole in the bottom of a large ceramic/ glazed pot. Being able to dial up the torque and use the "hammer" got the desired results. Great Drill.

This is my 2nd one. The 1st Ive had for 6 years and have used to drill, bore, screw, and hammer drill thousands of times and it still works. My batteries are shot so the drill smokes when using so I replaced it with this new one. With the new batteries the old drill work fine again but I'm keeping the new one for in home stuff and using the old one for farm fences and dirty work. Simply one of the best tools Ive ever owned. Amazon has the best price.

We now have two of these DCD950's, and both have problems with the chuck not keeping hold of bits. They worked well for the first few months, but now the bits fall out because the chuck loosens on it's own. One of the drills has the clutch stuck. So now it doesn't have enough tork to drill without the clutch slipping.
The drive line is not designed as well as the previous model, but that one had a trigger that wore out after a couple years, and a new one was almost as much as a new drill.

Just to correct a previous reviewer, this drill is not powered by Li-ion batteries. The battery is Ni-Cad. This makes a difference if you are trying to match this drill up with another set of Ni-Cad tools.

The drill is very powerful and has so many settings that it can be used as screwdriver all the way to drilling concrete. Amazon shipment is also quick and reliable. Best price anywhere on the web or in-store.

The one tool purchase I can look back on and regret buying is a Ryobi package deal (light, radio, drill, circular saw). The price was right, and the set really did function OK for several years. Every time I used the drill though, I knew that I was missing out on a lot of options and power.
Finally with the Ryobi batteries dying, I knew I had a reason to get the Dewalt drill. Sure the drill alone costs about three times more than the whole Ryobi set, who ever said that good tools were cheap though?
I like everything about this drill. It is really my go to drill around the house and shop.

Oddly enough, the Ryobi drill had a magnetic plate on it that was great for holding screws. I missed that feature so much that I bonded a big magnet to the dewalt.

Big, powerful 3-spd hammerdrill. 18V Nicad (did not want lithium batts)

Nice kit to get you two sets of batteries and a charger. You can then buy the bare tools later for much cheaper as you will likely not need more batt packs.

This drill is very heavy and big. Not the kind of drill/driver you want for just putting some screws in the wall. It will get heavy quickly, esp if you are holding at awkward angles. This is meant for heavy duty work. The hammerdrill works fantastic for drilling into masonry, such as predrilling for Tapcon masonry screws.

The 3-spd tranny allows for very fast drill speed, and the drill has enough torque to power through nearly anything. Watch your wrists and fingers if the drill gets stuck on something, it will snap your wrists right around!

There's something satisfying about driving in a screw with ease and this drill does just that.

From hammer-drilling through concrete, fastening concrete backer boards, mixing mortar to installing lightweight wall anchors, this drill does both big and small jobs with ease.

I've used a varying array of electric screwdrivers and drills. This, by far, is my favourite so far.

I sat on the fence, trying to decide whether to get the NiCAD or Lithium battery. I went with the NiCAD because it was cheaper. With the spare battery, I have no regrets as I'm the one that runs out of energy before the drill does. The charger has a feature to recondition the battery, so I'm sure the batteries will last a good long while.

I am a tile Contractor. DEWALT DCD950KX 18-Volt 1/2-Inch XRP Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver does everything I need it to do. It puts screws in underlayment, and does a great job. It has the strength to countersink the screw, which my 12 volt did not. It is heavier than the 12-volt. It is stronger, well-made, a very good drill. The battery lasts a while before needing to be recharged. I would definitely recommend this drill for people who need a serious drill.
