5.0 out of 5 stars Woman's review, September 12, 2011

This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm a single woman who has to take care of a house by herself, so I need a drill with power. I also occasionally build small things, living on a mini-farm.

I love the slimmer handle grip on this DeWalt drill..My last drill was a Makita and I'm a petite woman and my hand had to stretch too much to reach around the grip...This drill's grip is much slimmer and I'm so very happy about that. The weight is good and balanced, although it's a pound more than my Makita.

The BEST part is how the battery attaches to the drill!! I struggled so much getting my Makita battery on and off because my hands are so small, but this one you just click it on and then simply push a button to remove it..I can't tell you how much better that is for me. Thank you DeWalt!

The instructions are clear and are accordion style. However I did not understand the charger symbols..Simply the light blinks when it's charging and solid when it's fully charged. The rest of the buttons on the drill are simple and easy to understand. Even with the confusing instructions about the symbols, charging is simple and it takes about one hour to charge one battery.

The box includes a very durable tote bag with extra side pockets on the outside and inside. No compartments inside to separate the drill by itself though..but at least I can keep drill, charging units and battery all in one place.

The saw was a bonus for me..because I have a jigsaw I mainly use for most everything, but I may learn to use it now that I have one.

For anyone who doesn't know...a Hammerdrill is used to drill into concrete, bricks etc. It hammers as it drills to be able to do this. I think that option will offer up a lot more ways to use this drill, being able to drill into bricks and through concrete.

Okay, I'm not going to go into all the technical details that the guys love but mean absolutely nothing to me. ; I wanted this hammerdrill and saw combo because I love doing home/gardening projects. And this product is about the neatest tool set I've got now. I was able to head down to the garden (nary an electrical outlet in sight) and build trellises, bed boxes, limb fruit trees, etc etc all with this cordless set. It holds a charge for hours and hours. Easy to carry around, comes in a nice case. I absolutely love it and am getting one for my sister for Christmas! The husband-unit may have laughed at me at first, but even he has to admit he's impressed with what I've accomplished with this set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top quality drill, only one caveat on the rec. saw, October 1, 2011

This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am currently in the process of completely gutting and remodeling my house and was in need of some new tools so I decided to try out the new Dewalt 20v to update my aging 14v Makitas. My main job is doing irrigation work for agricultural applications and am an amateur carpenter so I know my way around a power tool.

The Hammerdrill: This tool is amazing! Fits perfectly in my hand, not too heavy, controls are easy to adjust but don't change on their own. I have to confess I had a little too much fun when I opened the box and fell in love with this drill. I immediately clamped a 2x4 down and got a 2-1/4" spade bit and went to town. I actually ran out of board to put holes in before the factory charged battery ever showed signs of slowing down. This drill has major power. It is not a light, compact drill/driver for getting into tight places and drilling small holes; this is a powerhouse meant to drill big holes all day long.

The Reciprocating saw: This is a solid tool that is comfortable in the hand, has good weight and will do anything you ask of it. It is basically perfect except for the blade release mechanism. It has the type where you lift a lever on the side which moves a slide lock down on the inside. Even new and after limited use this lock did not slide the easiest and blades did not "drop" in. I much prefer the twist lock on the corded Bosch, but as long as you keep these very clean and lubed they function adequately.

Battery: These babies last a good length of time under heavy use, don't heat up as much as others I have owned in the past and really aren't as heavy as their slight bulk should weigh. Now as long as they hold up to years of recharging better than the old NiCad we'll be in business.

This is a solid set for anyone doing some heavy work and need strong, long lasting tools. May be overkill for some of the more common tasks, but fun nonetheless!

5.0 out of 5 stars For this klutz, superb: solid, safe, responsive and easy to use, September 14, 2011
This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am probably not the ideal customer or reviewer of this product. I'm strictly odd-jobs around the house, lack a craftsman's instincts and am very wary of power tools. Regardless, I loved it. It is compact enough to make me feel comfortable, the controls and options are simple to sort out and it certainly delivers on the results. It's a little weighty but that gives me extra confidence that it isn't going to run away, slip or do something weird. For the small tasks I did -- getting my garage in shape and adding shelves, supports and trimmings -- it was excellent. I really felt that I could concentrate on what I was doing without having to keep half my eye and even more of my mind on the tool itself.

It is a first rate piece of design -- totally functional in its layout, positioning and tools. It looks good and feels good. I feel I will be more likely to take on bigger jobs and see it as ideal for someone who spends a lot of time on sawing, drilling and building fixtures. Clearly, it offers more for a professional than I as an amateur would ever need. It isn't inexpensive but the price seems good value for what if offers.

Super sweet drill sawzaw combo, the only thing is when really really using the sawzaw it seems to fall on it's face and slow down here and there, i am not sure if it is a overheat circuit in the motor protecting it or what

Great procuct. Lots of power from the battery to the tools. It is suprising what a difference 2 more volts can make. Have used the Reciprocating Saw to prune my fruit trees. Saves a lot of cord pulling to start my gas chain saw and is a lot lighter and easier to use. Have also used it to cut small firewood (5 inches in diameter or less). The Hammer Drill is great on larger sized jobs with plenty of power. No more cord drills for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replaced my six year old XRP Ni-Cad Hammerdrill, December 19, 2011

This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Lately my DEWALT DC988KA 18-Volt Cordless Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver Kithas been dying and not holding a charge for more than 30 minutes with minimal effort drilling. Then the quest began in search of a new one. So many choices, so many choices. First I thought to myself, why not just buy new batteries? Well again so many options, Ni-Cad vs Li-Ion what was the difference besides price vs function. The DeWalt DC9180-2-C (2) 18V NANO Lithium-Ion Batteries w/ DC9310 7.2V - 18V Ni-Cd / Ni-MH / NANO Lithium-Ion 1-Hour Battery Charger Almost $200 for 2 batteries and a charger equates to around $100.00 a battery in almost any big box store, NOT ON MY WATCH!. But why compromise when you can have both, so I went with the new DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit and a free DEWALT DCB200 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Battery Pack with an additional $25.00 off. For $300.00 I received 3 new 3.0 Ah batteries with a new premium hammerdrill and the good quality sawzaw as free bonus's. Don't be fooled into getting the DEWALT DCK490L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah 4-Tool Combo Kit or DEWALT DCK590L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah 5-Tool Combo Kitand think you are getting a quality sawzaw or circular saw. Look at the DEWALT website and compare the numbers on the saws they are cheaper and do not have as many options. I also orderd DEWALT DCB201-2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 1.5 Ah Compact Battery 2-Pack for $100.00 with $25.00 off and PRIME two day shipping. All in total 5 batteries two premium tools for $375.00 and a charger. Now back to the review with comparrison to the old XRP
Pros:
30 minute charger
batteries are 25% cheaper
last 25% longer
Li-Ion batteries
Balance is unbelieveable natural
Not as heavy as old XRP
Best price I can find anywhere
Built my outdoor deck on 1 battery, drilled 20 1/2"x6" and 100 1/4"x4" spax screws/lag bolts and over 200 #10 2-7/8" structural screws in 2x4, 2x6, 2x12, 4x4 in the course of one day.
2 day shipping
90 day satisfaction return policy
2 year limited warranty
What else can I say, I am a DEWALT kinda guy and a horrible spellar.
I also left the drill in my car overnight for a test -5 degrees outside, still had a full charge on it.

I bought the 12v max drill/driver combo as well and it makes an excellent addition to this 20v set.
On DEWLAT's website they note in the future this line of tools will eb expanded to meet the old 18v tool line. Like the grinder, jigsaw, and a few others. This is the time to start purchasing as they are pushing th elower prices to launch the new 20v line. Also this is actualy 18v it jsut distinguishes a slide on battery vs the old goos neck type. It is all a marketing scheme btu it works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now That's What I'm Talking About!, September 15, 2011
By
This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As part of my participation in the Vines program, I recieved this product for review.

The drill is heavier than the 18 volt rechargeable we have in our house, but the tradeoff in power is well worth it! My wife and I were redoing our youngest daughter's room and the drill worked well for removing the old shelves and installing the new window treatments. Those 2 extra volts make a surprising amount of difference.

As for the saw, there wasn't much need for it around the house, but I tested it out on some branches knocked down by Hurricane Irene and it performed nicely. I am quite pleased with it and expect to use it and the drill when we do some work on our deck and next spring when we install a fence.

I also like the carrying case, charger and extra 20 volt battery inclded in the product. Overall, the items feel slightly heavier than their 18 volt counterparts, but the power will get the job done faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars POWER tools!, September 11, 2011
This review is from: DEWALT DCK292L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah Hammer Drill and Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Having owned a variety of power tools from the corded, heavy drills and saws to the cordless, lighter versions. I got these to see the difference in power with the 20 volt battery.
Although a bit heavier than what I was used to, both of these tools deliver power, ease of use and versatility.
