Dewalt impact driver,

This review is from: DEWALT DCK984X 14.4-Volt XRP Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Had 14.4 batteries and 2 drills, so I kept with 14.4 which seems fine for my needs. The impact driver is a must have.Compact and powerful. Wish I had gotten one earlier. Glad I waited and did comps, and decided to go conservative and stick with 14.4 NICAD series. They are not too big, and pack a punch good enough for most. I now get my NICAD batteries rebuilt locally, and with a higher amp rating than new. The push is on to Lithium, but these are fine, cost effective, and take the time to find a place to have them re-built with higher amp hours, and let the industry go Lithium if they want.

Fantastic Tools,

This review is from: DEWALT DCK984X 14.4-Volt XRP Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had a contractor working in my home who had a DeWalt 14.4-Volt impact driver and used it every day. He asked me to drive some 3" screws through the sub-floor into a 4X4 he was holding under the house. The DeWalt impact driver ran them in with very little effort on my part. I was expecting to have to get on top of the driver to keep the bit from spinning in the screw head like I have to with my Crapsman 19.2 Volt driver. Iv'e used mine now on several projects with amazing results. The Hammer Drill works as well as most corded drills, with no stalling when trying to enlarge some holes in steel plates.

Heavy, awkward, way too long.,
This review is from: DEWALT DCK984X 14.4-Volt XRP Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This drill is really heavy, doesn't have an ergonomic feel to it, the batteries are huge (not much smaller than the 18volt) and worst of all, it is the longest cordless drill I have picked up. I hoped to have an all around drill that would replace my 14.4 volt Makita with NIMH batteries that I have used daily for about 8 years (original batteries still going strong) because I broke the charger for it. However, when I got this Dewalt out of the box I knew I didn't like the feel of it right away. When I saw it was even longer than my 8 year old drill and was too long to drill a face frame of a 15" cabinet I realized it wasn't going to work for me. I was hoping that 14.4 volts would be a good compromise on power and size from either the 12 volt or the 18volt, but this drill is a monster. I wouldn't buy it unless you strickly want to use it for a hammer drill. I am going with the new Bosch 18 volt instead, which is much shorter and has lithium ion batteries. To top off my displeasure with the Dewalt drill, I reread the reviews posted on Amazon and found that several of the reviews are not really reviews for this drill but are reviews for a different dewalt drill- an 18volt model.
