Product Description

Product Description

DEWALT's new 12 Volt MAX infrared thermometer is ideal for electricians, plumbers, remodelers and HVAC contractors tasked with scanning for temperature changes and locating potential trouble spots on the jobsite. With the ability to measure temperatures from negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 932 degrees Fahrenheit and a patent-pending LED hot and cold spot indicator, the IR thermometer provides visual and audio alarms to alert contractors in noisy work conditions. Maximum initial battery pack voltage (measured without a workload) is 12 volts. Measured under a workload, nominal voltage is 10.8. Includes a 12V Max Li-Ion Battery (DCB120F). note on battery technology: When batteries are being charged and discharged a chemical reaction is taking place, and if it is too hot or cold the chemical reaction is disturbed causing a loss of runtime. when using the battery in cold climates to put the battery on charge first or do a couple quick applications to get it warmed up. For optimum performance, do not store batteries in areas where the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

The DEWALT 12-Volt Max Infrared Thermometer is designed to provide non-contact, laser-guided temperature readings from safe distances. The thermometer has a range of up to nearly 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and adjustable emissivity for accuracy in a variety of workplace environments. A color-coded display, audio alarm, and ergonomic design make taking quick and accurate temperature readings of precise areas easier.

Non-Contact Recording Functionality
The DEWALT thermometer is sensitive to temperatures from -20 to 932 degrees Fahrenheit, so you'll find it suitable for most construction site applications. Because it uses non-contact technology and is programmed to store its readings, you can operate the DEWALT from safe distances and still record maximum, minimum, and average temperatures.

Class II Infrared Laser for Precision
The thermometer uses a Class II infrared laser for 12:1 targeting accuracy. Its adjustable emissivity means you can tailor it to work with various metals and materials and still get results accurate to within 1.5 percent.

Color-Coded Display for Easy Use
The DEWALT features a backlit screen so it's easy to read your data in any light conditions. It also incorporates blue and red numerals onto its LED screen to help you recognize temperature changes when comparing readings across a room. The thermometer has an audible alarm to alert you of abrupt changes in temperature, so you'll be able to identify potential trouble spots.

The DEWALT's ergonomic design makes the thermometer easy to hold and operate, while its base-mounted, 12-volt lithium-ion battery pack allows it to stand conveniently upright.

This Infrared Thermometer kit is a great tool for finding trouble spots and variations in temperatures.
It comes with a case, 12-Volt rechargeable battery and the charging base. It charged in a very short time, just over an hour. The battery clips on securely and the unit has a great feel. It is an easy weight for holding, comfortable in your hands with a rubberized grip and display cover. The LED display is a bright and easy to read green. It feels fairly durable because of the rubberized case that is not only around the outside edges of the unit but also around the display screen which leads me to think it would hold up under a normal fall.

The unit turns on when depressing the trigger and shuts off automatically after a couple of seconds.

Controls include:
* Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion
* Minimum, maximum, and average recordings
* Temperature readings to one decimal point
* Alarm if the reading is above or below the set high and low temp limits. The alarm can be audible or visible (red and blue indicator lights) or both.
* Hold and scan while temperature variations are read. This allows for you to find variations and hot or cold spots as well as areas that exceed the preset high or low limits.
* Emissivity adjustments in .01 increments to adjust for different materials.
* 12:1 distance to spot ratio, which means that for every 12" away from the object it will measure 1" of area.
* Optional belt hook attachment

The laser light traveled from one side of our house to the other (38') without any problem but the reading covers a much larger area. We were able to pinpoint specific household areas of heat loss around wall/floor edges, door frames, return vents and a floating floor on an addition.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is one IR thermometer that offers everything, even a rugged lockible case to protect it.

This is one of the nicest IR thermometers that I have ever had a chance to use. What makes it so nice obviously is the accuracy, but when you find out how they achieved it you really appreciate it more. Given the fact that various surfaces emit heat differently, for instance black asphalt reflects heat differently than a peace of white paper, this thermometer gives you choices for the types of surfaces your measuring for heat. Consequently, the thermometer is much more accurate. They call this feature's setting Emissivity.

Does it have all the bells and whistles that other IR thermometers have? Sure, all of that and more. Everything from back-lit screen, range adjustments, easy to read icons, alarms, rechargeable lithium battery, laser pointer, rubberized impact housing, etc. With all of this at your fingertips you can't go wrong. On my truck I am able to use this to check for dragging breaks, fouled plugs (registers colder temps at the exhaust manifold), and radiator temperatures. It works well inside the engine compartment because the thermometer is compact and fits well in tight places.

In the house I use it to check the temperature of electric circuit breakers, cold spots along doors and windows to detect leaking weather striping, and even scan the ceiling for cold spots to ensure even insulation in the attic. You can even find the level of liquids in tanks and drums without looking inside. Simply scan from the bottom up and you will see a distinct temperature change when you get above the liquid line. (Tip - When I don't need it for a job or project, I can even use it on the weekends to see when the grill is hot enough to put on the ribs.

I recently bought this device in order to better insulate my house. I am very pleased with the unit. You simply press the handle button and point the laser light at the area where you want to determine the temperature. The green display will give you an instant read-out of the temperature. Walking along the floor of my kitchen with the device pointed to the floor, I could detect 1-5 degree (F) changes in the floor temperature. These differences were caused by inadedquate or no insulation in the basement under the flooring. In the basement, I used it to spot where cold air was coming into the house. You can point the laser beam over a fairly large distance (at least 50) feet. The only caveat with this method is that for every 12 inches the light travels, the temperature cone increases by one inch. This isn't really a problem because it can help you locate cold spots very quickly.

I have begun insulating the right spots (or spots more in need of isulation) rather just guessing at where I should insulate. I believe I will save enough in heating costs in one year to pay for the unit.

Constructrion is rugged, light weight and simple to use.

Very good and inexpensive piece of equipment. One good feature is that you're able to stand it up on its battery rather than just laying it flat, and if you already own other 12v L-ion tools, you got an extra battery. Being able to adjust ems and set Hi and Lo alarms helps also. Nice backlight display. Would have nice to have a type K thermistor connector but good anyways.
