This is a great chuck. A great design, well engineered, and well made. I don't happen to own any DeWalt drills, so maybe they've all got chucks this good -- if so, I've been missing out. This is the only keyless chuck I've encountered that lets you effortlessly lock bits dead tight and release them just as easily: just slide the collar back slightly and twist. Best of all, it only takes one hand (at least with my drivers). Worth every penny, particularly given the quality.

I use it primarily with a pair of Bosch PS20-2 and PS40-2 drivers, and it works flawlessly with both, but I particularly like it with the PS20-2. I even use it chucked into my drill press if I need to make a lot of bit changes -- the one hand operation gets you spoiled in a big hurry.

I was surprised by the heft of this chuck upon opening the package, and it was immediately obvious that this was not some Chinese made piece of junk that is so often what you get these days (It's made in Japan). Frankly, this is the best keyless chuck I've used on a drill. It uses the impact driver itself the tighten or loosen the chuck while you hold the it with one hand. It really makes it effortless. I'll now be using my impact driver for most of my drilling tasks.

I bought this for use with my Bosch PS40-2. I couldn't justify spending more money on another drill since I rarely need to use a drill attachment, but this Dewalt conversion chuck has been extremely useful. Like another reviewer said, its got a surprising amount of heft to it, but not enough to make my driver feel imbalanced, and the chuck itself feels very well constructed. Pop the attachment in, hold the collar and pull the trigger, and vice versa for taking it out.

have used these DeWalt chucks quite a bit in my line of work as a union tinner. had our tool crib send one out and it lasted two days before it crapped out on me. sent it back for a replacement and the same thing happened to the replacement, turns out one of the three jaws would get jammed and not align with the others when tightening. even when it was working, i found it to be a PITA to get a bit in and out of it. a coworker of mine has a unibit permanently locked in his, unable to get the bit out, he now has to deal with dead weight of a locked DeWalt chuck on his expensive unibit. for all the aggravation i'd much rather deal with a keyed chuck, or if you've got the coin, spring for the Hitachi chuck.

i have a dewalt 20v brushless motor impact driver. great tool. all of my power tools are dewalt and are great. but this tool is a joke! decided to put it to the test before i actually needed it forreal, see how badass it works since it looks and feels solid. i took my impact driver, inserted the chuck (with the twenty volt brushless, the chuck is recessed in the tool, so you dont pull the sleeve back, you just push the hex stem in), and inserted a 7/8" irwin speedbor max drill bit. i tightened it the way the instructions said. forward the trigger while holding the chuck sleeve until it ratchets for about two seconds. great it tightened fine... my only concern moving forward was how well would it hold the bit; with the constant vibration and all. well i drilled into a douglas fir 4x4 and it powered right thru, backed out to clear the flutes, went back in. went to back out again and the hex stem came away from the chuck completely.well, low and behold, dewalt thought it was a good idea to thread the stem into the chuck. wtf!!!! are you seriouse?????? i could not believe my eyes. not welded on, not a one piece design, but threaded on....where it is almost a guarantee to become unthreaded. not to mention i cant loosen the chuck. ill have to throw it on the vise and put some channle lox on it. thirty bux down the drain. and to think all along ive sworn by dewalt. smh

First off, I never write a bad review about Dewalt tools. It's very hard to find a bad one and this keyless chuck is no exception. However, I bought this with the latest and greatest 'brushless' impact driver by Dewalt. Over a $300 tool and a great one so I was shocked that the shaft on this chuck would not lock into the drill. It worked fine with 3 other drivers that I tried and the Dewalt driver had no problem with locking a 1/4 inch shaft tool - just not this one! It has to be a design oversite. I would give it 5 stars on quality, 4 stars on cost versus quality but 2 for a company with Dewalts rep missing something this obvious. How do you come out with the latest and greatest and newest direction in cordless tools and not check your own "keyless chuck for impact drivers" in this latest and greatest impact driver? The 2 stars are for a this oversight and also to help warn anyone who purchased the new brushless impact driver not to waste their time. (Would have been a one star but I just don't think Dewalt ever deserves that)

I'll quickly add that the brushless driver has a new (and fantastic) 'quick-release' for the 1/4 shank tools but apparently there is a fraction of a fraction of an inch difference than the norm for the shaft length. Weird, I really wanted this chuck to work. Love the new driver too much to part with it so the chuck went back and I'm restarting my search for one that will work.

I'm going to contact Dewalt and will update this review with their response if I get one.
