DEWALT DW082K Laser Plumb Bob Kit

I tried three David White Mark 4 laser devices before I bought the DeWalt. Two of the Mark 4's had indistinct oval blobs instead of sharp dots, the third actually had a broken window. The dot produced by the DeWalt DW082K is far superior. It has a small cross with a sharp, bright dot in the center. It works great, but could use some improvement in the dampening system. A slight movement of the unit causes the beam to deflect wildly for several seconds before completely stopping. I marked spots on the floor and ceiling as indicated by the laser dots. I then rotated the DW082K in 90 degree increments for the full 360 degrees. Each time, the laser dots exactly covered the marked spots. I concluded that it is very accurate, at least for my use.

This is a quality unit at a great price. Not a lot of bells and wistles, but at 1/3 the price of the Hilti up/down unit, this is a great deal. Paid $10 more from our local distributor.

This laser plumb bob can't be beat for the price. It self levels reasonably quickly, has a nice small, bright red dot projected up and down. The overhang of the frame above the lower dot gives good visibility of the lower dot for reference or marking purposes. The device is well made and stands 5" high, 2" thick and 4 1/4" across. I have used it for interior and exterior projects with excellent results. Lots of applications for this device.

I have owned this for about three weeks now, and it has been a life saver.

A lot of my lighting installations have been on sloped ceilings and with this Plumb Bob, layout was fast and accurate.

I would recommend this to anyone needing accurate placement of lights, fans, etc.

This tool does one thing only but it does it well. It does the same job as a plumb bob except it has more applications and it is easier to use. Use it to plumb walls, or when stick framing, use it to locate the end of the top plate of a wall. It is better than a plumb bob when building a free standing wall because it's impossible to hold a bob in midair and mark a spot. Just set it at the end of the bottom plate or track and measure to the dot then cut to the measurement. It works with wood or metal stud framing (for metal it has magnets that hold it against the track). It has a nice case that should protect it well.

as a drywall fixer in the uk i find this invaluable and for the price , excellant value. paid £120 which is about $230 but these products cannot be obtained in the uk for your prices.

This is my second or third unit in the past ten years, my last one i ran over by a sissor lift twice smashing the glass top and bottom and putting it out of shape...IT STILL WORKING WELL...I often open up the pls2 which I often have small adjustments to make but this dewalt unit is very well made.No I don,t work for dewalt.

I originally owned the Stanley fat max version laser plumb, but i dropped it from 10' up onto cement. It worked for a while after that but ended up failing. So i looked on amazon and this one was on sale so i thought its a dewalt so it must be better.

Well i was wrong, it works fine, and the case is a nice plus. But it takes probably 4 times longer to level out then the Stanley fat max. I need to use it in multiple locations, i place it down mark, move it mark again etc... I have to sit there what seems like forever waiting for it to level out so i can mark my location. So i waste tons of time, which equals money.

The Stanly had some sort of a magnetic assist to make it quickly level out. In fact it was almost instant. Plus it is cheaper.

needless to say i think i will be returning this for the cheaper stanley fat max laser plumb

Stanley 77-189 FatMax PB2 Self-Leveling Laser Plumb Bob

I'm a DIYer, not a pro, but I appreciate tools that simplify my efforts and when a project is large enough, I can justify getting a a few of those tools for the money I save by not hiring the work out. Framing my basement, this was exactly one of those tools. It simplified my job, which was important since I did most of the work solo, and it both enabled me to do it solo and saved a huge amount of time. The product comes in a heavy duty case, and the level casing itself is very strong. I have, to my horror, dropped the thing a time or two on contrete but it is built tough and the falls haven't hurt it. I would buy this again in an instant and though i don't need it for every project, its one of those tools that are more than just handy when you do need it. Next on my list is the DW087K laser level.
