Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The DEWALT DW1177 20-piece drill bit set contains bits sized from 1/16-inch up to 1/2-inch. These bits have a black oxide finish for greater wear protection and longevity of the bit. The parabolic flute design also gives these bits greater strength. They have a 135-degree split-point design that reduces slip and walking and allows for easier no-slip starting. The bit set includes a sturdy tough case container to keep bits organized. Tough cases include a sliding soft-grip lock that keeps the case closed securely to prevent lost bits. These bits are ideal for drilling in metal, wood, and plastics.

They seemed to stay sharp for many uses and last along time.
Michael DeJonge
Aside from that, these are sharp, well made, and perhaps perfect for drilling into wood and plastic.
James
The case is a nice extra as it keeps the bits organized and protected.

These bits really work great. They start cutting easily and the thicker ones ( > 3/8ths) are very durable. However, i did break 2 of the 3/8ths while drilling through pine. It was my first project in about 6 years and maybei wasn't holding the drill straight, but as soon as i bought set of stronger 3/8ths i finished the rest of the drilling (another 100+ holes).

-Great Price
-Good Quality
-Cuts through Metal
-Drills through hard wood

I Would Recommend this to everyone looking for a great starter pack of bits

Comparing these bits to the highest quality available, it is evident that they are somewhat thinner through the web (I think that is the technical term for the thickness of the twisty portion of the drill). This means that there is more rapid heat buildup at the cutting edge because there is less mass for the heat to dissipate into. Aside from that, these are sharp, well made, and perhaps perfect for drilling into wood and plastic. I just don't see them as 'top tier' for total quality. The average person may never notice a difference between these and the very best.

I purchased these for a small tool set. They are very nice and the case is solid and secure. NOTE: These are NOT professional grade, but with proper use and cutting oil when drilling steel, they should provide years of occassional use.

For the money, these drill bits can't be beat. My old set of craftsman bits was fine, but after years of abuse as well as losing some bits I had to purchase a new set. I didn't want to break the bank, so ended up with these. The case alone makes this a great purchase. It is easy to keep the bits organized and avoid the loss of bits which seems to plague me. Second, the 3 bonus bits this comes with is invaluable to me. I seem to use my 3/32 bit more than anything else, so the extra bit really comes in handy. In fact I snapped one of the 3/32 bits, so it saved me a trip to the store. These bits are sharp and great for wood with a charged drill. I did cheat and use one of the bits to drill through angle iron - it got the job done, but I wouldn't recommend it as these aren't designed for non-wood surfaces, I believe.

Keep an eye on the price of these and you can get them real cheap...about a buck a bit. Great deal. Not industrial quality or anything like that, but still a very reasonable drill bit.

these are the worst and most dangerous bits i've ever used. i've never seen bits snap in half while drilling through wood and light metal, but three of these did on seperate occasions - even the thick bits. dewalt should be ashamed of themselves.
i'd recommend buying ryobi or irwin brands for cheap bit sets and go for bosch or makita for the higher end.
my whole shop used to be dewalt brand tools but this was the last straw, all of their products and support have been getting worse and worse.... i am slowly switching over to bosch.
