I have used this set on soft and hard wood, as well as aluminum and steel, with cordless hand drills or on my drill press with excellent results. The bits are very sharp and the pilot point does prevent the bit from wandering, although one should always center-punch before drilling anyway. Only complaint is that I wish it had come in the traditional DeWalt hard plastic case instead of the roll-up case, which takes up a lot of benchtop space when it is rolled open.

I can't say these bits are any worse or better than other manufacturer's---though the pilot hole style bits are nice in that they don't wander, even on hard objects, as you're starting your hole. The holder, however, is a very practical canvas thing: heavy duty, room for multiple bits in the smaller sizes, nicely labeled for each size, and easy to get into. It's the holder that made me choose this set, and for that, I recommend the whole gizmo.
