Don't Buy Other Manufacturers' Hex Shank Chucks,
By A Customer
This review is from: DEWALT DW2505 3/8-Inch Shaft Rapid Load Chuck (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used the Makita and Stanley, and they are junk compared to the DeWalt. The BIG difference is that the collar on the DeWalt is spring-loaded so that you just push the bits in and they lock in. All the other brands that I have seen, you have to pull back the collar manually (a 2-handed operation) to insert the bit. The device is sturdy and a time-saver over other brands of similar function. DeWalt makes a few nice combo-sets as well.

I have been doing a lot of work that requires me to drill holes and then use my drill as a screwdriver. This little gadget makes me tremendously efficient. I just pop the drill bit in and I'm ready to work. It cut my time by about 75%. Well worth the money.

This isn't too bad of a quick change chuck, but I have had some problems with mine. I have two dewalt drills and I have one for each and have the same problem with both.
First off, the one in the picture is not the one you get. The ones I got were all metal and knurled. (no big deal) The big problem that I have are my bits sometimes fall out when I point the drill down (on both of them). It seems that the ball inside gets stuck and you have to hit it on a hard surface to get it to dislodge. I used a craftsman with a craftsman drill for a long time and had no problems. I still have had good luck with dewalt and will continue to buy their stuff. I suppose maybe I just got a couple of bad ones.

The pictures show two different products. I was hoping to get the one with orange on it in all pictures but #1. The product is as shown in the first one that for some reason is longer and makes it not as compact. I don't have any tools that can accept the middle section of this product, what is it for? I ended up buying a similar Irwin product that is more compact.

This chuck is extraordinarily easy to use with one hand, in contrast to many similar products where you need one to push down the collar and another to pull the bit out. This one has a small spring that coaxes the bit out far enough that it's free of the keeper but still in the chuck and easy to change. Highly recommended!

It has already been said in most of the reviews on this product, but it bears repeating. Just pop in a bit and the spring mechanism locks in. pull back on the collar and it ejects. So simple it is genius. There are many other rapid load chucks available by other makers but for some reason they have all chosen to use a mechanism that usually requires two hands to operate and is not only more complicated in design, but not as efficient. I have several of these made by just as many manufacturers, mostly because they are often packaged with a set of 1/4 inch shank bit sets, but the DeWALT is the only one I use everyday most of the others I own are still in the original case and mostly unused.

This item lacks the "rubber finger grips for comfortable use" that is in the product description, and is also physically different from the picture shown here. See my uploaded pic for what item actually looks like.

I keep this tool on my cordless drill most of the time. It works great and is well made. It saves time, I no longer have to open and close the drill chuck to install a different bit.

Not calibrated well,

Bought this and quickly returned it. The one I purchased was so badly calibrated that when I used it my bit would wobble so much I could barely use the driver. You may be better off with another brand that won't potentially damage your tools.
