Nifty Case, Cheap Bits. Is Anything Made In USA Anymore?,
By rob smith (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DEWALT DW2518 Rapid-Load 30-Piece Drilling and Driving Set in Plastic Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this set, which includes a quick change chuck, origin unkown, quick change magnetic nut drivers- 1/4",USA and 5/16", USA, quick change drill bits,USA, quick change socket adapters- 1/4", China, and 3/8", Taiwan, quick change magnetic 1/4" screw guide, China, and an assortment of screw driver bits, origin unknown, to speed up my production on projects. All are stored in a locking clam shell case, which when flipped open reveals two locking storage compartments which have spacers to seperate the various bits. Nice case! It's made of durable plastic, everything locks up, and gives you a convenient little package in which to store all your small bits and driver accessories. The "accessories" which came with this kit leave something to be desired. The quick lock chuck is fine. It appears to be of decent quality (origin unknown) and doesn't have too much slop when inserting a bit. By the way, it's too big to fit in the clam shell case. The bits on the other hand come from at least three different countries! So the end result is that I like the case and chuck, that's where the three stars come from (actually I would rate this kit as 2 1/2 stars if I could) but consider most of the bits and drills in this kit to be throw away junk. ...

Great Case, Very Handy,

I bought this with a Dewalt hammer drill. I'm a modestly serious DIY-er and have not used all the pieces of the kit yet, and may never do so.
The case is extremely useful. It has two locking covers to keep things from falling out, so one is not looking for fifteen bits after an accidental upset. TIP: open it on the floor so you can't spill it. You'll only ignore this advice once... It took me a while to get used to the latches on the case, but that's a trivial inconvenience compared to spilling and losing a lot of bits IMHO. The only real drawback I see to the case is that the compartments are a little short, and there's not room to put a large drill bit set in this. However, you'll probably want to keep those in the original container anyway. The bits are a useful assortment. I have not noted any obvious problems with the bits yet. The quality may have improved since the 2002 review. I don't plan on doing a lot of nut driving with this, as I have an impact wrench for that application. And I have not used the drill bits for anything but soft pine and aluminium yet, but they seem OK for that. So, very convenient packaging, good bit assortment, OK for my use so far. Recommended.

While I use this kit everytime I use the drill, the drill bits are not sturdy, and about half of them have broken after I used them a few times. The screw bits are excellent and of good quality. The rapid changer has been attached to my drill since I bought it - the rapid changer is a must have item for any Dewalt drill, and if you only need the rapid changer, buy it separately.

Handy Bits,
This review is from: DEWALT DW2518 Rapid-Load 30-Piece Drilling and Driving Set in Plastic Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product was purchased for casual use in a non-industrial environment.
Though this product bears the Dewalt name, the quality of the package is lacking. Small Phillips bits round easily and large ones shattered with as low as setting 8-9 into pine & fir. This set would be better offering a snap in chuck to use professional grade drill bits, rather than the 'instant-dull' bits included with this set.

I'm surely glad I got this with my new DeWalt drill-driver. The bits and drivers are in a compact, easy to organize plastic case that fits conveniently in the drill bag. The quick load accessory is really a convenience and I'm glad it came with the kit. I'm able to accomplish projects requiring a drill so much more efficiently now that I, a female senior citizen, have my own drill and the bits and drivers to go with it rather than scrounging my husband's scattered bits and drivers.

Good value for a starter set,

I think the Dewalt rapid load drill attachment is the best around. I have, in the past, purchased separately the yellow box in the set for organizing drill, masonry, and screwdriver bits. So this set was perfect as a starter set for my carpenter's drill bag.

The bits are lubricated, making me believe they will get rusty with use.
Believe it or not, the set is made of 30 pieces, but 9 of them are the same #2 Philips bit. Why? Maybe because the dubious quality. The hex base of the drils are poorly finished. The box is great although the quick loader chuck doesn't fit inside it. Maybe the best part of this Set.

the rapid load is not the 1/4 adapter for driver set,

I'm disappointed that the rapid load adapter is not the 1/4 end where I can use it for my driver/impact set from Dewalt.
Also, the rapid load adapter can't fit in the case. That was not too smart to create a case that does not fit the adapter as shown in the picture. I have to find another place to store it now :(

I love this case. I get to have almost every kind of bit that I would need in one case and separated for easy retrieving. I don't use this quick load piece, mostly because of its size. I really like the Wiha 71490 ClicFix Bit Holder, Magnetic for Insert Bits bit holder that I got. It works well and it will fit in the case.
The other nice part about this set is the quick change drill bits. I wish they had a few other sizes, but these will usually get the job done, and they save me a lot of time.

Good Set, Lame Case,

Ok, items in the set are a good to have around the shop and working around the house. However, I was quite miffed when the set arrived and I couldn't fit the Rapid Load chuck into the case the comes with the kit. Dewalt seems to have missed the KISS boat when it came to this product. Why doesn't the integral piece of gear(Rapid Load chuck) fit into the kit? I guess the engineers designed this one early on a Monday morning!
